Register Herald Obituaries for January 15, 2000 Leslie E. Berry Leslie Edgar Berry, 83, of Coal City, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Jan. 3, 1917, in Big Q, he was the son of the late Edgar and Maude Sheppard Berry. Mr. Berry was a retired coal miner and of the Protestant faith. He was a member of UMWA Local 6869, District 17. He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Berry; two brothers, Elgie and Charles Berry; and two sisters, Delphia Adkins and Arlene Harrah. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Maxine Pack Berry; two sons, Wayne Berry and his wife, Althea, and Keith Berry, all of Coal City; a daughter, Sandra Drennen and her husband, Denver, of New York; a brother, Ira Berry of Minden; three sisters, Edith Clement, Emogene Lilly and Wanda Harvey, all of Beckley; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Blume LOOKOUT - Florence Edna Blume, 103 years, 9 months and 1 day old, passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Fayette Continuous Care Center, Fayetteville, after a long illness. Aunt "Sis," as she was known in the community, was born April 12, 1896, in the DeKalb Inn on James River and Kana-wha Turnpike. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Eliza Flanagan Blume. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Cleo McCutcheon, and a brother-in-law, Lewis Ernest Holliday, both of Lookout; five nephews; seven nieces; and a host of great-, great-great- and great-great-great-nieces and -nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Lookout Baptist Church with Pastor David Bennett and the Rev. Paul Reiter officiating. Burial will follow in Jeanette Cemetery, Lookout. Ceprich FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Louis Franklin Walter Ceprich, 65, formerly of Oak Hill, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, following a long illness. Born Feb. 14, 1934, in Whipple, he was the son of Mary Magdalene Alexknovitch Cep-rich of Oak Hill and the late Louis Ceprich. Mr. Ceprich was a retired automobile mechanic. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill, and a U.S. Army Korean Conflict veteran. Other survivors include his wife, Lorraine Arnold Ceprich; an adopted son, Timothy Cep-rich of Oak Hill; an adopted daughter, Tammy Ceprich of Raleigh, N.C.; a stepson, Bud of Fayetteville, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Joann and Paula, both of Florida; two sisters, Rose Downing of Bunker Hill and Mary Lou Shanks of Oak Hill; seven stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Born Oct. 29, 1939, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Ruby Evans Ferguson. Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker. She worked in the service department at John W. Eye Co. for 15 years. She was preceded in death by her brother, Benny Ferguson. Lindberg LADSON, S.C. - Elizabeth Taylor Lindberg, formerly of Oak Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, in a Charleston hospital. Born Dec. 2, 1937, in Oak Hill, she was the daughter of Marguerite Thomas Taylor of Greenville, S.C., and the late Willis B. Taylor. Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker. She was former president of the Dorchester County Republican Women's Club and was of the Presbyterian faith. Other survivors include her husband, Floyd Weldon Lindberg; a daughter, Susan T. Pomeroy McMillion, formerly of Quinwood, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, in Euclid Meridia Hospital following a long illness. Mrs. McMillion was the daughter of the late John W. and Goldie Boone Pomeroy. Since 1931, Mrs. McMillion had been a member of First Baptist Church, Quinwood, where she was the former pianist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Clifton McMillion, in 1970; a sister, Barbara Ellen Cale; and three brothers, John Edward "Pete" Pomeroy, Earl Pomeroy and William Howard Pomeroy. Born Dec. 27, 1914, in Maben, she was the daughter of the late Harry Francis and Rose Katrina Warrener Hartley. Mrs. Moran had been a resident of Mullens for more than 60 years. She was a member of Mullens United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and a charter member of the Mullens Woodland Garden Club. She was the owner of Master Drycleaners in Mullens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Moran. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Born April 13, 1911, in Annona, Texas, he was the son of the late Henry Newton and Ida Mae Knotts Nix. Mr. Nix was a retired coal miner and a retired ABC store manager for Oak Hill, Mount Hope and Ansted. He was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Moose Lodge and UMWA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Elizabeth Lucas Nix. Survivors include two sons, Charles Nix and James D. Nix, both of Oak Hill; a daughter, Karen Hanlin of DeSoto, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Parsons, 77, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at his residence following a short illness. Born Aug. 9, 1922, in Newton, he was the son of the late William Miranda and Liddie Smith Parsons. Mr. Parsons was a former sawmill worker and retired as a truck driver. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having received several medals, including three major battle stars, a double cluster Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, a medal of honor, a good conduct medal and a CIB badge. He was a machine gunner in the 5th Army, 81st Platoon. He was a member and trustee of Joseph Baptist Church, Lynco. Mr. Parsons had been a resident of Wyoming County for the past 43 years. He sang in several quartets in the area. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Maynard Parsons, Dempsey Parsons, Delford "Pete" Parsons, Squire Parsons and Senate Parsons; and a sister, Delena Hensley. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Margretta "Rita" Bolen Parsons; five sons, Roger Parsons and his wife, Corky, of Lynco, William "PeeWee" Parsons and his wife, Debi, of Oceana, Dallas Parsons and his wife, Loretta, of Sun Hill, Ronnie Parsons and his wife, Kay, of Hewitt and Scott Parsons and his wife, Jodi, of Clear Fork; two daughters, Ruby Hall and her husband, Bennie, of Matheny and Susan Parsons Rodden of Lynco; a brother, Mack Parsons of Dixie; two sisters, Nellie Courtney of Loon-eyville and Ruby Leach of Nallen; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Born July 15, 1960, in Beckley, he was the son of Leroy Sorrells Sr. and Vivian "Tootie" Reavish Sorrells of Beckley. Mr. Sorrells was a member of Welcome Baptist Church, Beckley, a U.S. Army veteran and a cook. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Margaret Sorrells; and his maternal grandparents, Josephine Carey and Robert Reavish. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Catus Sorrells; two sons, John and Antwan Sorrells, both of Beckley; a sister, LaChonne Smith of Beckley; three aunts, Suzie Carey of Columbus, Ohio, and Gayla Sorrells and Jackie Sorrells, both of Beckley; an uncle, Paul Carey of Columbus; special niece, Krystale Sorrells of Beckley; his mother-in-law, Evangelist Marie Catus of Beckley; seven nieces; five nephews; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of cousins, friends and other relatives. He retired in 1986 from Eastern Associated Coal at Herndon. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby H. Miller and Ethel Malagrida; and three brothers, Harry Tate, James Tate Jr. and Thomas Tate. Survivors include his companion of 26 years, Betty Wil-liams; two daughters, Patty Deitz and Mary Wojnowski and her husband, David, all of Charlotte, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Pam Reed and her husband, Lonnie, of Herndon; three stepsons, Jeff Cox and his wife, Theresa, of Mullens, Lacy Cox and his wife, Cathy, of Corinne, and Steve Cox of Dover, Del.; two sisters, Pris-cilla Lester of Potts Creek, Va., and Doris Colston of Mullens; three grandchildren, Billy Deitz and his wife, Kristina, Dylan Tate Deitz and Jason Wojnowski, all of Charlotte; and a great-grandchild, Alexis Mariah Deitz, of Charlotte.
