"Bill" Boshell, 74, formerly of Kopperston, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at his home following a long illness. Born in Brilliant, Ala., he was the son of the late Walter and Ruth Tirey Boshell. Mr. Boshell was a 1944 graduate of Oceana High School and was a retired superintendent of Eastern Associated Coal Corp. at Kopperston with 43 years of service. He moved to Cedar Bluff in 1977 and started MABO Coal Co., working until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed his retirement with family and friends and often enjoyed fishing at their summer home on Smith Mountain Lake. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Boshell. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Geraldine T. Manning Boshell; three sons, Michael J. Boshell and his wife, Linda, of Ceredo, Mark M. Boshell of Atlanta and Willis Jay Boshell of Cedar Bluff; a sister-in-law, Mary Boshell of Chiefland, Fla.; a brother, James Boshell and his wife, Dee, of Point Pleasant; two grandchildren, Michael David Boshell and Bill Hunter Boshell; and a niece, Bridget Boshell. Born June 25, 1919, in Huntington, he was the son of the late Emerson Preston and Pearl Ridgeway Brown. Mr. Brown was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a self-employed painter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Bertha Hedrick Brown; three sisters, Vivian, Nellie and Opal; three brothers, Burell, Earl and Horace; and a stepgrandson, Johnny Ray King. Born Feb. 23, 1907, in Crawley, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lorena Robinson Walkup. Mrs. Burr was a retired postmistress for the Corliss Post Office, a member of the Farm Women's Club and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Aaron Burr, in 1983; and five brothers, Glen, Berling, Elmer, Clifford and Richard Walkup. Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Burr and Joan Perry and her husband, Mike, all of Corliss; a son, Cecil A. Cantley, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000. Born at Thurmond, he was the son of the late Edgar and Eva Woods Cantley. Mr. Cantley grew up to become a decorated, career serviceman with the United States Air Force. During World War II, he was a member of a B-25 bomber crew flying combat missions in Italy before achieving the position of aircraft flight engineer for the balance of his military career. He was an active member of the Amara Shrine, volunteering to transport sick and injured children to the West Coast. He also served in various positions in the lcoal Amara Shrine organization. Mr. Cantley was a charter member of Amara Shrine and was responsible for initiating the first golf unit for the Shrine. He was a faithful member of Tropical Sands Christian Church. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Trudy Cantley; three sons, Robert, Charles and Larry; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, twins Katherine and Frances. "Curly" Lykins, 87, of 1276 C&O Dam Road, Daniels, died at 8:40 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at his home following a long illness. Born July 9, 1912, in Huntington, he was the son of the late Thomas Lee Lycans and Lavina F. Oleaker Lycans. Mr. Lykins was a former coal miner and a retired employee of the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital maintenance department. He was a former manager of the Beckley Babe Ruth League, an avid fisherman and camper and Atlanta Braves fan. Mr. Lykins was a member of the UMWA, a U.S. Navy veteran and was involved in the CC Camp. He was a member of Daniels Wesleyan Church and a Daniels resident for 39 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Richmond Lykins; two brothers, Harry and Irvin Lycans; a sister, Goldie Riffle; two grandsons, Thomas J. and Kenneth Lykins; and a great-granddaughter, Mary Suzanne Pate. Mr. Lykins was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include five sons, Kenneth Lykins of Shady Spring, James H. He worked as an automobile salesman in California and Pennsylvania for many years and last worked as an industrial painter in Virginia. He has been a resident of Saxon for the past 15 years. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Edith. Born March 9, 1924, in Abney, he was the son of the late Watson C. and Mary Maxine Warner Shrewsbury. Mr. Shrewsbury was a retired coal miner with Westmoreland Coal Co. and a member of Local Union No. 6105. He served in the CCC in 1941 and in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was of the Protestant faith and lived his 75 years in the Coal City area.
