Born Sept. 25, 1958, in Summers County, he was the son of Hallie Adkins Adkins of Hinton and the late Clifford George Adkins. Mr. Adkins lived most of his life in Summers County. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joey Adkins, in 1996. Mr. Allen was a member of Bonsack Baptist Church. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, a graduate of West Virginia University, where he was an active alumnus, and a retired electrical engineer. Since his retirement, he and his family enjoyed countless hours at Smith Mountain Lake. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed. Bailey OCEANA - Quinton Frank Bailey, 66, went home to be with his Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at his residence following a long illness. Born Aug. 17, 1933, in Jesse, he was the son of the late Henry L. and Laura Allen Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a retired coal miner and worked 16 years at the Newport News Shipyards and Dry Dock. Isola PETERSTOWN - Carmen Michael Isola, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in a Roanoke, Va., hospital. Born April 12, 1913, in Mount Pleasant, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Antonette Marie Selletti Isola. Mr. Isola attended Ramsey High School, Mount Pleasant,earned a bachelor of science degree in commerce from Bowling Green Business University in Bowling Green, Ohio, and a master's degree in business from West Virginia University. He taught school at Peterstown High where he served as both vice principal and principal. He served as chairman of the Business Department of Bluefield State College. He was a local barber in Peterstown since 1935, a public accountant and a tax practitioner. He was a member of Rich Creek Methodist Church and attended Riverview Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters. Born March 8, 1931, at Wills Branch, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Myrtle Dotson Kidd. Miss Kidd was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Beckley College. Her working career began at Sterling Smokeless Coal at Whitby and she retired from Beckley National Bank with 39 years of service, and held various positions. A born again Christian and 50-year member of First Church of Nazarene on Johnstown Road, Miss Kidd served in many positions in the church and was awarded the Distinguish Service Award through the local Nazarene World Missionary Society. She was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Kidd. Survivors include two brothers, Buren Kidd and his wife, Betty, and Raymond Kidd and his wife, Ann, all of Beckley; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was a miner for 35 years and a member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Lester, in 1970; two daughters, Rita Nalls and Lillian Knight; a brother, Sterling Lester; and a sister, Mildred Harris. Born Aug. 19, 1921, at Kaymoor, he was the son of the late John D. and Ethel Bennett Loomis. Mr. Loomis was a lifelong resident of Greenbrier County, a World War II veteran, a member of Community Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lewisburg, and a member of the VFW. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Erma F. Loomis, on March 21, 1998. Born Feb. 16, 1925, in Meade, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Plumley and Lucie Adkins Plumley. Mrs. Meadows was a homemaker. Mrs. Meadows had been a resident of Cool Ridge, living with her daughter for the past nine years, having lived most of her adult life at Rhodell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Meadows; and two brothers, Hobart and Sidney Plumley. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and of the Baptist faith. Persinger, 75, of Crab Orchard, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at his residence following a long illness. Born May 29, 1924, at Clifftop, he was the son of the late John L. and Stella Black Persinger. Mr. Persinger was a retired coal miner, working in the mines 18 years, including 16 years at Slab Fork Coal Co. He was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church and faithfully attended Crab Orchard Church of the Brethren. Mr. Persinger served in the 4th Marine Division of the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and saw action in Saipan, Iwo Jima and several other islands. His hobbies were woodworking, camping and he enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports and followed the local baseball teams. In 1968, he was a post commander of Sophia America Legion Post 169. He was preceded in death by two children, Shirley and Doug; and eight brothers and sisters.
