Register Herald Obituaries for January 28, 2000 Clarence E. Bragg HARVEY - Clarence Edward Bragg, 90, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in an Oak Hill medical center following a short illness. Born Feb. 3, 1909, at Meadow Fork, he was the son of the late Josephus and Sara Rogers Bragg. Mr. Bragg was a retired coal miner, having worked for New River Co. at the Oakwood Mines. He was a member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Bethal Jenkins, Mary Romn and Donnie Humphreys; and a brother, Arlie Bragg. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Rosie Ballard Bragg; a son, Edward Bragg and his wife, Pat, of Harvey; three daughters, Bettie Wriston and her husband, Raymond, of Mossy, June Davis of Harvey and Shirley Gibson of Gatewood; a brother, Woodrow Bragg of Grandview; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Brown LERONA - Eva McKenzie Brown, 90, of Phillips Personal Care Home, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in a Princeton hospital. Born Sept. 30, 1909, in Oakvale, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mae Pennington McKenzie. Mrs. Brown was retired from the McDowell County school system, having taught in War and Newhall. She was a member of Browns Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a past president of the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of Athens Chapter No. 33 Order of the Eastern Star and was active in the Princeton Old Guard. She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. "Frank" Brown; a daughter, Frankie Jean Brown; a grandson, William Timothy Brown; and three brothers, Eugene McKenzie, Otis McKenzie and Modock McKenzie. Survivors include a son, William F. "Bill" Brown and his wife, Martha, of Princeton; a daughter, Donna B. Brewster and her husband, Bill, of Springfield, Va.; seven grandchildren, Beverly Flanigan and her husband, Tom, Robert Daniel Brown and his wife, Jeanie, William H. Cunningham ELIZABETHVILLE, Pa. - Verna Mae Cunningham, 72, died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa., following an extended illness. Born Feb. 3, 1927, in Ardenheim, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles Sr. and Alice Bradley Dysard, the stepdaughter of Alma Dysard. Mrs. Cunningham was of the Protestant faith and attended the Nazarene Church in McConnellstown, Pa., while living in the area. She worked in various sewing factories throughout her life. She was always sewing at home, making quilts and lending a helping hand to others. Mrs. Cunningham was married to Herbert G. Cunningham in the Nazarene Church. He preceded her in death July 24, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Dysard Jr. Survivors include two daughters, Linda L. Stiffler of Beckley and Kathy L. Hoover of Elizabethville; a son, David G. Cunningham of Sorrento, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and two sisters, Thelma Cunningham of Altoona, Pa., and Edna Brosius of Huntingdon, Pa. Mrs. Harris was a member of Gap Mills United Methodist Church and Union Chapter No. 122 Order of the Eastern Star. She was an employee of the former Andrew S. Rowan Memorial Home at Sweet Springs, was a volunteer for the Committee on Aging and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Harris; a daughter, Lena Grace; two granddaughters, Robin Lynn Harris and Alice Lee Harris; and a great-grandson, Shaun A. He was a World War II Army veteran and a lifelong resident of Wyoming County. He was a descendent of Capt. Ralph Stewart, the second person to settle in Wyoming County. He was preceded in death by two sons, Onnie Stewart and Gifford Stewart; three sisters, Nannie Walker, Gay Ball and Juanita Phillips; and four brothers, Nelson Stewart, the Rev. Charles Cooper, Guy Stewart and Paris Stewart. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lettie Pendry Stewart; a daughter, Betty Gail Sigmon and her husband, James, of Glen Fork; a son, the Rev. Roger D. Born May 15, 1919, in Sarton, he was the son of the late Horace Henry and Jessie Ethel Kershner Weikle. Mr. Weikle was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ronceverte, its Meth-odist Men, the men's Sunday school class, the county team and an usher. He was a member of Shryock Lodge No. 47 AF and AM, where he received his 50-year pin in 1999. Mr. Weikle was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served with the 51st Evacuation Hospital in France, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. He was a retired barber in Ronceverte, where he was former owner and operator of Weikle's Barber Shop. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mason Weikle. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Burdette Weikle; a daughter, Mary Susan Williams and her husband, Mark, of Sinks Grove; a son, Howard F. Weikle Jr. and his wife, Teresa, of Morehead, Ky.; and three grandchildren, Howard Weikle III, Michael C. Weikle and Joshua A. Weikle.
