Register Herald Obituaries for January 29, 2000 Clyde E. Adkins NIMITZ - Clyde E. Adkins, 71, of Ellison Ridge Road, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at his home following a long illness. Born Dec. 13, 1928, at Flat Top, he was the son of the late Basil G. and Versie Oakes Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a member and deacon of Little Bluestone Primitive Baptist Church and was a 1947 graduate of Hinton High School. He was a former employee of C&O Railroad and the Atomic Energy Commission of Ports-mouth, Ohio, and was retired from Mountaineer Gas in Beckley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Claron Adkins. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Imogene Pack Adkins; a daughter, Donna Adkins of Nimitz; three brothers, Luther Adkins of Shelbyville, Ind., Velmer Adkins of Norton, Ohio, and Basil Adkins Jr. of Jumping Branch; a grandson, Joseph Ross Meadows; and two granddaughters, Stephanie and Sarah Meadows. Born April 3, 1944, at Sandstone, he was the son of the late Julian and Delphia Bragg Cales. Mr. Cales lived most of his life at Sandstone. He was a member of Sandstone Baptist Church and was a former employee of High Power Energy in Summersville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Cales, on Dec. 14, 1995. Survivors include two sons, Randy Cales and Jamie Cales, both of Sandstone; a grandson, Harley Tucker Cales of Sandstone; a granddaughter, Shy-anne Michelle Cales of Nimitz; three brothers, Everette and Charles Cales, both of Sandstone, and Otis Cales of Smoot; and four sisters, Arbanna Cox of Sandstone, Delores Richmond of Brooks, Martha Ewing of Shady Spring and Edith Thorne of Michigan. Craddock, 78, of 119 Bradford Drive, Beckley, died at 8:35 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at a Beckley hospital following an extended illness. Born Jan. 2, 1922, in Fayette County, he was a son of the late General Lee Craddock and Lizzie Thompson Craddock. Mr. Craddock was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA and the Church of Christ in Piney View. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, being awarded the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Ruth Midkiff Craddock, in 1993; a son, Teddie Lee, in 1968; four sisters, Icie Wilson, Ophia Jones, Norell Stover and Macie Wilson; and seven brothers, Roy, Eldridge, Bill, Cabell, Ira, Ronald and Ernest Craddock. Eads LEXINGTON, Ky. - Hilda Marshall Eads, 74, formerly of Page, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Christian Health Nursing Center, Lexington, following a long illness. Born April 23, 1925, at Kaymoor, she was a daughter of the late Eddie and Eva Johnson Marshall. Mrs. Eads was a homemaker and a member of Page Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter I. Eads Sr.; and a brother, Denny Marshall. Survivors include two sons, Richard Eads and his wife, Ellen, of Page and Walter I. Eads Jr. and his wife, Edna, of Lexington, Ky.; four sisters, Camilla Miller and Ella Kirk, both of Alabama, Ann Thomas of Florida and Belva King of Tennessee; three brothers, Frank Marshall and Donald Marshall, both of Alabama, and Tom Marshall of Page; and four grandchildren, Renee Burmer, Christy Brenemen, Sean Eads and Brian Eads. Born July 31, 1953, at Hinton, he was the son of Pauline Plumley Gill of Hinton and the late Calvin Gill. Mr. Gill was a self-employed furniture maker, a member of Hinton Gospel Tabernacle and a lifelong resident of Summers County. Hess, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at his home following a short illness. Born Oct. 16, 1912, at Moundsville, he was a son of the late Lonnie C. and Laura Blanche Dunlap Hess. Mr. Hess was retired from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources as a superintendent of Moncove Lake at Gap Mills. He was a former bus driver for the Monroe County Board of Education and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, when he served as a radar operator in the Pacific. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene R. Hess, in 1992; and three brothers, Williard, Eugene and Charles Hess. Survivors include a son, Cary Hess and his wife, Sharon Wharry Hess of Gap Mills; two sisters-in-law, Alberta Doss Dayton of Gap Mills and Annette Hess of Bradenton, Fla.; two granddaughters, Gina Lee Hawks and her husband, Phillip, of Dublin, Va., and Debra Ann Hess of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews. She was born Oct. 18, 1911, in Cahutta, Ga. Mrs. Payne lived most of her life in Mabscott until she moved to Baltimore to be near her family. For many years she worked as an admissions clerk for Beckley Hospital. She loved working in the medical profession. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She was very proud of her family and loved to display their photographs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee L. Payne. Survivors include her only daughter, Margaret Honaker of Maryland; a brother, Clyde Starks of West Virginia; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Born April 21, 1941, at Newhall, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Sallie Southerland Fields. Mrs. Peck was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Hershel, Daulton and Norman Fields. Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Clyde A. Peck; two sons, Douglas R. Peck and his wife, Rachel, of Pineville and Gregory A. Rosenbaum MUNSTER, Ind. - Milly M. Rosenbaum, 96, formerly of Beckley, died of natural causes Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in a Muster hospital. Born Feb. 20, 1903, in Danzig, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Natalia Grau. Along with her husband, Eric, Mrs. Rosenbaum was co-owner of Eric's Jewelery in Beckley. She was a member of Temple Beth-El in Munster and was a member of the Sisterhood of the Temple. Mrs. Rosenbaum had been a resident of Munster since 1978. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Rosenbaum; four brothers, Sallie Grau, Walter Grau, Arno Grau and Rudy Gray; and a sister, Gertrude Grau Lewin. Survivors include twin sons, Frank Rosenbaum and his wife, Maryann, of Munster and Tom Rosenbaum and his wife, Cheryl, of Saline, Mich.; and six grandchildren, Lora Rosenbaum of Plymouth, Mich., Michael Deric Rosenbaum of Columbia, S.C., Natalie Rosenbaum of Brooklyn, N.Y., Jason Eric Rosenbaum of Washington, D.C., Nicole Rosenbaum of Coral Gables, Fla., and Stephanie Rosenbaum of Munster. Born April 1, 1926, at Amherstdale, she was a daughter of the late Claude Nelson Blackwell and Grace Mae Grant. Mrs. Shyblosky was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God, Oak Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Shyblosky. Born Aug. 25, 1914, in Bailey, Va., she was the daughter of the late Rufus E. and Cordilla Robertson French. Mrs. Sims was a retired employee of Hinton Hospital and attended Riverview Chapel, Hinton. She had been a resident of Summers County most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earshel H. Sims, on March 5, 1974; a grandson, Samuel H. Hum-phreys, in 1986; and a granddaughter, Tina Sims, in 1974. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include two sons, Curtis W. Sims and his family of Nimitz and Frank A. Sims and his wife, Linda, of South Charleston; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Delda) Furrow of Hinton, with whom Mrs. Sims made her home, and Mrs. Frank (Freda) Humphreys of Powhatan, Va.; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a stepgranddaughter and a stepgreat-grandson. Born June 28, 1920, in Lisbon, N.D., he was a son of the late Joseph Malvin and Mamie Mary Brace Tanner. Mr. Tanner retired from the United States Post Office with 28 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a born again Christian. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Alvin Tanner. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Thelma Jane Martin Tanner; a son, James W. Tanner of Beckley; a sister, Ollie Mae Weisenhaus and her husband, Cliff, of Salem, Ore.; and two brothers, Ellis Wilson Tanner of Hood River, Ore., and Floyd Wesley Tanner and his wife, Edna, of The Dalles, Ore.
