Born Dec. 30, 1925, in Winona, Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Darius and Inez Thomas Hoke. Mrs. Amick was a 50-year resident of Leivasy, a homemaker and member of New Prospect Baptist Church, Leivasy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Jennings Amick, on Dec. 4, 1998. Born Feb. 10, 1931, in Marseilles, France, he was the son of the late Francois Joseph and Augustine Julie Astier. Mr. Astier was the owner of E&M Heating and Air Conditioning. He was of the Catholic faith and was a French Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Bolen Astier; two sons, Marcel J. Astier Jr. of College Park, Md., and Christopher C. Capaldo ALDERSON -Peter Paul Capaldo, 73, formerly of Anjean and Gauley Bridge, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, in a Low Moor, Va., hospital following a long illness. Born June 29, 1926, at Berwin, he was the son of the late Fred and Flora Cole Capaldo. Mr. Capaldo was a retired coal miner, having retired after 42 years of service. He was a former employee of Leckie Smokeless Coal Co., Anjean, and retired from Central Appalachian Coal Co., a subsidiary of American Electric Power, Montgomery. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, Local 9619, District 17, and a member of Midland Trail Masonic Lodge No. 166 AF and AM, Rainelle. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dutch and Frank Capaldo; a sister, Mary Ann Peters Walls; and a grandson, Justin Peter Fick. Mr. Carrico was the owner of Don's Hot Dogs, Grafton, a member of First Baptist Church of Grafton, a founding member of the Grafton Fire Department, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Grafton and was employed by the B&O Railroad in Grafton and the Chessie System in Cumberland, Md., before his retirement. Born June 10, 1904, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Peter A. Hill and Josie Broyles Hill. Mr. Hill was a blacksmith in the coal mines and a stone mason. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he was a Bible teacher. He was a 15-year resident of Crab Orchard. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hattie Hill; his second wife, Lydia Hill; and a son, Garman J. Hill. He was past recorder for the Town of Sophia, a former member of the Sophia Lions Club and a member of the West Virginia National Guard. He was preceded in death by three brothers, George C., Basil and Harry Shumate. Survivors include his wife, Jane Mahoney Shumate; four sons, Melvin J. Mrs. Smith was a member of Balboa Baptist Church, Hot Springs Village, where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class, and was an ordained deacon at Garden City Baptist Church, Roanoke. Mrs. Smith had been a resident of Hot Springs Village since February 1998 and had been a former member of the Garden City Civic League in Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. Smith Sr., in March 1990; a brother, John Poloski; and two sisters, Bertha Hollandsworth and Anna Skull. Survivors include a son, H.
