Register Herald Obituaries for July 4, 1999 Lawrence E. Lane Jr. CHARLESTON - Lawrence E. Lane Jr., 73, died Friday, July 2, 1999, in a Charleston medical center following a long illness. Born Oct. 20, 1925, in Blytheville, Ark., he was the son of the late Lawrence E. Sr. and Julia Gamble Lane and had live in Charleston for the past two years. Mr. Lane was a retired maintenance worker for Eden Foods Inc., Detroit. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Beatrice Graham Lane; two sons, Gary Lane of West Land, Mich., and Michael Lane of Redford Township, Mich.; a daughter, Larrie Ann Ward of Greenville, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Brenda Bennett of Belle and Cathy Bennett of Roseville, Mich.; a stepson, Michael Bennett of Warren, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Lawrence Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Upland Cemetery, near Hinton. "Piggie" Richardson, 60, formerly of Beckley, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, in Dania following a long illness. Born Sept. 2, 1938, in Besoco, he was the son of the late Archie Richardson and Lorena Staples Richardson. Mr. Richardson was a sales consultant for Maroone Auto Plaza, Pembroke Pines, Fla., and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Beckley. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Richardson; and a sister, Doris Tucker. Survivors include his wife, Maria Echave Richardson; a brother, Vernell Richardson of Norfolk, England; and a sister, Evelyn Herring of Cleveland. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Nelson Staples Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley. Melanie Beth Winfrey Melanie Beth Winfrey, 25, of Beckley, formerly of Princeton, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at a Beckley hospital. Born Sept. 1, 1973, in Bluefield, she was the daughter of Robert Earl Winfrey of Princeton and Ellen Marie Thomas of Beckley. Ms. Winfrey was the office manager for Graham Ranch, Beckley. She was a 1991 graduate of Princeton Senior High School and a graduate of National Business College with a degree as a medical assistant. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Dora Lee Hurley. Other survivors include a daughter, Britton Victoria at home; a brother, Darin Winfrey of Bland, Va.; two sisters, Shannon Honaker and her husband, Terry, of Bluewell and Kristin Winfrey of Princeton; her stepfather, Wayne Thomas of Beckley, and stepmother, Pamela Winfrey of Princeton; a stepbrother and stepsister, Robbie Walthall and Alicia Carter, both of Macon, Ga.; maternal grandfather, Oscar Beeman of Princeton; paternal grandparents, Haldy Earl and Margaret Lucille Winfrey, both of Princeton; and two nephews, Cole Bryson Honaker and Burt Honaker. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Clifford Schell officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Friends at Saddlebred Golf Club, Beckley, will serve as pallbearers.
