Born May 6, 1922, in Helen, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Myrtle Pruitt Seletyn. Mrs. Acord was a retired nurse, working at Raleigh General Hospital for 25 years, and was a member of Ury Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a granddughter, Michelle Lacy Perrine. Survivors include her husband, Rexford Acord; and a daughter, Sandi Perrine and her husband, Scott, of Gainesville, Ga. Adkins Julious Lambert Adkins, 82, of Glen Morgan, died at 8 a.m. Monday, July 5, 1999, at the home of his daughter, Cindy Meador, following a short illness. Born Sept. 2, 1916, in Beckley, he was the son of the late French Adkins and Elizabeth Lilly Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a former coal miner with more than 20 years of service and a union electrician for nearly 22 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the IBEW and UMWA. He had lived most of his life in the Beaver and Beckley areas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Redden Adkins, in 1990; and a son, J.C. Adkins, in June 1999. Born Oct. 24, 1925, in Cadle Ridge Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Arthur E. Hess and Donnie Allen Hess. Mrs. Baughman was a homemaker and a retired cook and waitress at Kelly Drug Store in Oak Hill. She was a member of Carlisle First Church of God, where she taught Sunday school for more than 36 years. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society, serving as vice president. She was preceded in death by her husband, Audrey Baughman; a grandchild, Jarrett Massey; a sister, Margie Arcudia; and five brothers, Paul and Leon Bragg and Jim, Clarence and Lawrence Hess. Herbert "Bud" Hess ANSTED - Herbert Lyle "Bud" Hess, 76, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, in a Charleston hospital. Born Nov. 13, 1922, in Slab Fork, he was the son of Nellie E. Legg Hess of Ansted and the late Herbert F. Hess. Mr. Hess was a retired machinist from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, a member of the Knights of Pythias and an avid golfer, bowler and gardener. He was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having been awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze stars, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Marine Corps Sharpshooter rifle badge, Marine Corps Sharpshooter pistol badge, Honorable Service Lapel Button and Marine Corps Honorable Discharge Button. He was a lifelong resident of Ansted. He was preceded in death by his wife, Artie Marie Hess, on May 6, 1997; and a stepson, Alv Yules Canterbury. He was a lifelong resident of the Beckley area. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Billy, Harold, Jack and William Tennant; a sister, Ruth Lisi; and an infant daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Havel Woolwine, in 1993; three brothers, George, Arvin and V.K. Conner; and three sisters, Mattie C. Rochelle, Elsie C. Peery and twin sister Era C. Brown.
