Register Herald Obituaries for July 20, 1999 "Jim" Kenneth Brash James "Jim" Kenneth Brash, 69, of Tolley Drive, Becklley, died Sunday, Juy 18, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born Nov. 1, 1929, in Mabscott, he was the son of the late James Spalding and Edith Perdue Brash. Mr. Brash spent his childhood at Glen Morgan, and was a graduate of Shady Spring High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1948 to 1952, part of that time was served in Korea. Mr. Brash worked for the C&P Telephone Company with 28 years of service as a cable splicer retiring in 1978, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He had been a resident of Tolley Drive since 1960, was a member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church, and in his spare time enjoyed hunting and fishinng. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Pisegna. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Delores Fowler Brash; four sons, John Brash of Beckley, Kenny Brash of Mount Hope, Tommy Sharp of Binghamton, N.Y., and David Sharp of Melbourne, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Marna) Edwards of Laredo, Texas, and Mrs. Steve (Sharon) Ransom of Mount Hope; two grandchildren, Eric Edwards and Kyle Sharp; a sister, Margie Blake of Savannah, Ga.; and a brother-in-law, Whitey Pisegna of Manassas, Va. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Pastors Ken Killen and Clarence Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Beckley. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley. Anna Marie Burleson Anna Marie Burleson, 78, 404 Parkway Street, Beckley, died Sunday, July 18, 1999 at her residence following a long illness. Born Aug. 7, 1920, in Crab Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Granville P. and Marie Radford Starr. Mrs. Burleson was a homemaker, a lifelong and active member of the First Christian Church, Beckley, member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and Ladies Circle of the church. She was a member of the Beckley Womanıs Club and the Azalea Garden Club, and was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Lee Burleson on March 24, 1998. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Davis of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Ellen DiLorenzo of Franklin, Tenn.; a sister, Charlotte Lilly of Beckley; two brothers, Dr. R.G. Starr of Beckley and Howard A. Combs PAW PAW, Mich. - Larry W. Combs, 59, formerly of Layland, died Friday, July 16, 1999, at his home following a short illness. Born Dec. 27, 1939, in Layland, he was the son of the late Victor Hugh and Cora Barnett Combs. Mr. Combs was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 14 in Wilmington, Del., and served with the Delaware Air National Guard. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Figgatt, Muriel "Buddy" Fleming and Phyllis Hoksch. Survivors include his wife, Luz Cortesı Burgos; a son, Sean Combs; a daughter, Sheila Lindstron; two grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Combs of Honeybrook, Pa., and Bob Combs of Ranson. Born Sept. 5, 1907, in Greenup, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Marion and Alice Nichols Messer. Mrs. Holbrook was a homemaker, a member of the Oceana First Church of God, and a member of the W.C.G. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Holbrook; a brother, Doris Messer; and a sister, Pearl Melvin. Mr. Spinks had a zest for life and was a lover of nature. Born May 13, 1930, in East Kingston, he was the son of the late Joseph Noah Stover Sr. and Dottie Wriston Stover. Mr. Stover was a retired coal miner. Woodson, 21, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, on Route 60, near Montgomery, following a motorcycle accident. Born June 2, 1978, in Montgomery, he was the son of Hank and Glenda Woodson of Charlton Heights. Mr. Woodson was a student at the West Virginia University Institute of Technology at Montgomery, and was an employee of the College Book Store. He was a graudate of Gauley Bridge High School, and a member of the Gauley Bridge Baptist Church. Other survivors include his maternal grandparents, Doris Hudnall of Gauley Bridge, and Ralph McMillan of Hampton, Va.; his paternal grandmother, Maggie Kratz of Glen Ferris; a brother, Bryson Woodson and his wife, Kathryn, of Charloton Heights; and his honorable grandmother, Annabelle Calpaldo of Alderson. Born June 10, 1912, in Sullivan, she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Lillie Cooper Akers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Holland H. Wyrick, with whom she owned and operated Wyrickıs Wrecking Service in the Rupert and Maplewood areas for more than 50 years. Mrs. Wyrick was a member of the Sewell Valley Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lois Scruggs; a grandson, Eugene Wyrick; three brothers, Floyd, Dewey, and Willard Akers; and two sisters, Beulah Adkins and Juanita Burleson. Survivors include two sons, Weldon H. Wyrick and his wife, Florence, of Charmco, and Dennis H. Wyrick of Maplewood; two daughters, Martha Arch of Clewiston, Fla., and Helen Dorman of Germantown, Md.; a son-in-law, William Scruggs of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sisters, Clema Keaton of Odd, Eunice Corpy of Safety Harbor, Fla., and Eula McGlothlin of Miamisburg, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
