Register Herald Obituaries for July 21, 1999 Stacy E. Daniels CYCLONE - Stacy Elbert Daniels, 75, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born Dec. 28, 1923, he was the son of the late Coy and Bertha Lusk Daniels. Mr. Daniels was a retired coal miner, member of UMWA Local 7604, District 17, and worked for Eastern Associated Coal for 33 years. He was a member of the Church of God, Cyclone. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wavy Gay Daniels; four brothers, Preston, Fred, Dewey and Eldon Daniels; and a grandson, Brian Daniels. Survivors include his wife, Marsha Todd Daniels; five sons, Willis Daniels and his wife, Geneva, of Cyclone, Wannis Daniels and his wife, Glennda, of Cyclone, Stacy Eugene Daniels of Lexington, N.C., Braden Daniels and his wife, Tammy, of Ravencliff and Minnis Osborne and his wife, Charlotte, of Cyclone; two daughters, Juanita Toler of Cyclone and Lucinda Price and her husband, Herbert "Buddy," of Portsmouth, Va.; two stepsons, Steven Scott and Benji Scott, both of Cyclone; a stepdaughter, Crystal Lusk and her husband, Loren, of Brandywine; two brothers, Coy Daniels Jr. and Homer Daniels, both of Cyclone; a sister, Lena Osborne of Cyclone; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of God, Cyclone, with the Rev. Kennis Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery, Cyclone. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church. Dotson, 82, of Bradley, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, July 19, 1999, following a long illness. Born Aug. 1, 1916, at Thayer, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Mary C. Yester Doston. Mr. Dotson was a retired coal miner. He was a member of Cranberry Community Church, Mason Laurel No. 104 and was a 50-year member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by a son, George D. Dotson; and a sister, Inez Miller. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Gracie L. Gwinn Dotson; a son, John R. Dotson and his wife, Libby, of Maple Fork; two daughters, Carolyn J. Sauder and husband, Robert, of Bellville, Ohio, and Verona Barley and husband, Jim, of Mansfield, Ohio; a brother, Robert Dotson of Wellsburg; a sister, Dorothy Springman of Baltimore; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Dorlis Walkup Lindsay DAWSON - Dorlis Walkup Lindsay, 59, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at her home following a short illness. Born July 24, 1939, at Dawson, she was the daughter of the late Miller H. and Cleo Anderson Walkup. Mrs. Lindsay was employed by Lowešs of Beckley, working in customer assistance, and was formerly employed as a certified nursing assistant for a home health care agency. She was a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church, Dawson. Survivors include two sons, Miller Franklin Blake and his wife, Patsy, of Hurricane and David Terrell Blake of Atlanta; two sisters, Belva Rhodes and her husband, Paul C., of Dawson and Evelyn Walkup Young and her husband, Don, of Diamond Head, Miss.; and three brothers, Miller Lee Walkup of Dawson, French H. Walkup and his wife, Joyce, of Spring Hill, Fla., and Robert E. Walkup and his wife, Juanita, of Perry, Ga. Born April 1, 1922, at Rocky Gap, Va., he was the son of the late Guy and Bertha Burress Moore. Mr. Moore was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a coal miner, having retired from Itmann Coal Co. He was a member of the UMWA and the local union at Itmann. He was of the Holiness faith and was a life member of VFW Chapter No. 3112, Bluewell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Potts Moore, in 1998; two sisters, Effie Woody and Reba Moore; and four brothers, Thomas, William, Elmer and Guy Moore Jr. Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Moore Farmer and her husband, Charles, of Lashmeet and Joetta Moore McKee and her husband, Tim, of Rocky Gap; a son, James Anderson Moore and his friend, Sherry Brown, of Matoaka; six grandchildren, James Matthew Moore, William Michael Moore, Kimberly Sizemore, Susan Taylor, Stephanie Cecil and Ryan Earl Farmer; six great-grandchildren, Courtney Farmer, Miranda Sizemore, Richard, Shane and Erik Taylor, and Dakota Cecil; two sisters, Essie Hanks of Bluefield and Irene Moore of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and three brothers, Erbie Moore of Winchester, Va., and Burley Moore and Harley Moore, both of Winston-Salem. Parker ALDERSON - Arthur Chester Parker, 85, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at a Fairlea care center following a short illness. Born Feb. 20, 1914, at Winding Gulf, he was the son of the late John Howard and Ida Cadle Parker. Mr. Parker was a farmer and a lifelong resident of the family homeplace at Eagle Branch, near Alderson. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert Parker, Hershel Parker, Clifford Parker and Theodore Parker; and three sisters, Bertha Cox, Crystal Morgan and Elizabeth Knapp. Survivors include two brothers, Millard "Bill" Parker and Richard "Emil" Parker, both of Alderson; a sister, Pansy Drumheller of Fairfield, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements by Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson. Robert E. Short Robert E. "Bob" Short, 84, of Westwood Drive, Beckley, died Monday, July 19, 1999. Born Feb. 24, 1915, at Wriston, he was the son of the late John H. and Jessie Stover Short. Following his graduation from Oak Hill High School in 1936, he began a career in the coal industry that eventually spanned 47 years. He began working as a coal loader at the Rock Lick Smokeless Coal Co. In 1942, he was hired by Eastern Gas and Fuel Coal Co. in Raleigh County as a coal inspector. While at Eastern, he also served as a preparation engineer and mine foreman. In 1962, he went to work with Winding Gulf Coal Inc. at Tams as safety inspector over all its mines. He ended his career as assistant general manager of the Tams Division of Westmoreland Coal Co. Mr. Short was a resident of Beckley for 56 years and an active member of Carriage Drive Church of Christ. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman, and on the day of his death he played seven holes of golf. He was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marie Teel Short; three daughters, Kay Chastain of Beckley, Bobbie Cooke and her husband, Tom, of Panama City, Fla., and Judy Cimala and her husband, Derek, of Somerset, Ky.; a son, Dr. Robert Short and his wife, Mary Lou, of Oak Hill; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gene Brown of Miami. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with Fred Dinkler and Jeff Belknap officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Ruth Akers Wyrick RUPERT - Ruth Akers Wyrick, 87, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, in a Fairlea hospital following a long illness. Born June 10, 1912, in Sullivan, she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Lillie Cooper Akers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Holland H. Wyrick, with whom she owned and operated Wyrickšs Wrecking Service in the Rupert and Maplewood areas for more than 50 years. Mrs. Wyrick was a member of the Sewell Valley Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lois Scruggs; a grandson, Eugene Wyrick; three brothers, Floyd, Dewey, and Willard Akers; and two sisters, Beulah Adkins and Juanita Burleson. Survivors include two sons, Weldon H. Wyrick and his wife, Florence, of Charmco, and Dennis H. Wyrick of Maplewood; two daughters, Martha Arch of Clewiston, Fla., and Helen Dorman of Germantown, Md.; a son-in-law, William Scruggs of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sisters, Clema Keaton of Odd, Eunice Corpy of Safety Harbor, Fla., and Eula McGlothlin of Miamisburg, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
