Register Herald Obituaries for July 26, 1999 Dorothy Alice Allen RED STAR - Dorothy Alice Allen, 59, died Friday, July 23, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born March 3, 1940, in Red Star, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Irwin "Butch" Edwards and Margaret Virginia Workman Edwards. Mrs. Allen was retired from Crown Cleaners as a dry cleaner presser, and she was a homemaker. She was also a member of the Pax Branch Baptist Church, Pax, and she had also sought a nursing degree in the early 1970s. She was preceded in death by one son, Dayton Ervin Canterbury; and two sisters, Phyllis Canaday and Geraldine Morrison. Survivors include nine children, Robert Lee Canterbury Jr. of Maple Fork, Patricia Pickard of Miami, Roger Dale Canterbury Sr. of Maple Fork, Eddie Dean Canterbury of Pax, Kathy Ann Caldwell of Red Star, Eva Marie Johnson of Hilltop, Cammie Lynn Semple of Mobile, Ala., Terry Allen Canterbury of Pluto, and William Randall Canterbury of Red Star; one sister, Pat Cochran of San Diego; two brothers, Marlan "Pickey" Edwards of Pax and Charles Edwards of Maryland; 27 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at High Lawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Samuel Vance officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Charley Bishop MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - Charley Bishop, 87, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, in a Middletown hospital. Born May 20, 1912, in Hanover, W.Va., he was the son of the late Noah and Mary Blankenship Bishop. Mr. Bishop was a coal miner and worked for the Pocahontas Fuel Co. of Itmann for 32 years before retiring in 1966. He was a longtime member of the Harlan Park, now Stratford Heights, Church of God, where he served as a church usher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma England Bishop; a son, Thomas G. Bishop; a sister, Ina Hatfield; and four brothers, Earl, Curtis, Ballard and Andy Bishop. Survivors include four daughters, Clara Trent and Mary Gray, both of Monroe, and Ciela Compton and Darlene Spice, both of Middletown, Ohio; a son, Terry Randall Bishop of Middletown, Ohio; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Flossie England of Ikešs Fork; and a stepbrother, Denney Bishop of Welch. Hatfield Craft, 65, of Clear Fork, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, in a Beckley hospital. Born Sept. 18, 1933, in Simon, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Annie Ellen Toler Hatfield. Mrs. Craft was a homemaker and a member of Mill Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and Arville Hatfield; and three sisters, Mona Whittaker, Eva Carter and Amol Hall. Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Jimmy Craft; five sons, Tommy Osborne of Matheny, Tennis Hatfield and his wife Cathy of Oceana and Rodney Hatfield and his wife Lawonne, Jimmy Craft Jr. and George Craft and his wife Renee all of Clear Creek; one daughter, Lisa Conley and her husband William of Denver, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Jordan of Kopperston and Juanita Cline of Oceana; and 10 grandchildren. Tersie Belle Keeney RAINELLE - Tersie Belle Keeney, 91, formerly of Kanawha County, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, in a Rainelle nursing home following a long illness. Born Jan. 2, 1908, in Eskdale, she was the daughter of the late Creed and Kate Kirk Combs. Mrs. Keeney was employed by the Kanawha County Board of Education as a cook at several Kanawha County schools, and she was a member of the Bascom United Methodist Church in Rupert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Keeney. Survivors include two sons, Charles T. "Tommy" of Hanahan, S.C., and Lowell E. "Eddy" Keeney of Clintonville; two brothers, Cody Combs of Naples, Fla., and Paul Combs of Norton, Va.; two daughters-in-law, Mary Keeney and Doloria Keeney; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Lowe, 56, of Jumping Branch, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, at a Summers County hospital following an apparent heart attack. Born May 8, 1943, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Delbert and Mildred Crow Gwinn and had lived most of her life in Summers County. Mrs. Lowe was a 23-year employee of Pipestem Resort State Park, where she worked in reservations and front desk. She was preceded in death by one brother, Delbert Gwinn Jr. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Zane Lowe at home; one daughter, Mrs. Toni Hall and husband Michael of Hilldale; two grandsons, Aaron and Jason Hall both of Hilldale; three brothers, Bobby and Kelly Gwinn of Flint, Mich., and Rex Gwinn of South Carolina; and one sister, Germaine Pomeroy of Fling, Mich. McClure, 76, formerly of Mullens, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, in Huntsville, Ala. Born May 21, 1923, in Mullens, he was the son of the late Raymond R. and Pearl G. Brogan McClure. Mr. McClure was retired from the Singer Co. and was employed with Woody Anderson Ford. He was a Navy veteran and had been a resident of Huntsville since 1990. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Faye Albright McClure of Huntsville, Ala.; two daughters, Lorrane Jackel of New York and Patty Sullivan of Washington; a son, Raymond McClure of New Jersey; four stepdaughters, Debra Walker of Huntsville, Ala., Jacqueline Hall of West Virginia, Meshia Sandoval of Toney, Ala., and Karen Wilbourn of Gurley, Ala.; three stepsons, Thomas Aaron and Keith Cottle both of West Virginia and Austin Cottle of Florida; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
