Register Herald Obituaries for July 27, 1999 Harless Adkins WHITE STONE, Va. - Harless Adkins, 92, formerly of Beckley, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, in a Virginia care center. Born Aug. 26, 1906, in West Virginia, he was the son of William Adkins and Jennie Buckland Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a coal miner in Beckley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Adkins; a son, Lowell Adkins; and a daughter, Becky Kyzer. Survivors include four daughters, Pauline Wall of Perry, Ga., Patricia Bellamy, Carole Sullivan Jett and Mary McDaniels, all of White Stone; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith Ward; a brother, Mason Adkins, both of Beckley. Graveside services were 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at Woodlawn Cemetery, in Kilmarnock. Pallbearers were Douglas Stump, Mark Schellhaas, David McDaniels, Tim McDaniels, Jim McDaniels, and Raymond Jett. Arrangements by Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va. Harold E. Beasley LAUDERHILL - Harold E. Beasley, 92, formerly of Hinton, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at his home following a long illness. After serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he earned a baccalaureate degree at Marshall College and his masters degree from West Virginia University. He retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Army. He began his teaching career at his alma mater, Hinton High School. He moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1956 and taught history for 21 years at Stranahan High School, where he was also the first baseball coach. Mr. Beasley was a Sunday School teacher and elder in the First Christian Church of Fort Lauderdale. He believed the best gifts in life are simplicity and the fundamental goodness of God's creation. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marguerite Martin Beasley; two sons, Philip and Jerry, and their wives, Molly and Jean; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and countless former students. Services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, at T.M. Ralph Funeral Home, Plantation, Fla. Kincaid Elbert Downs Kincaid, 71, of Stanaford, died Sunday, July 25, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Nov. 3, 1927, in Maplewood, he was the son of the late Blanche Scott and Asa Hill Kincaid. Mr. Kincaid was of the Baptist faith, a retired coal miner, and member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma "Pat" Kincaid, who preceded him on June 8, 1999; and a sister, Esther Kincaid. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Parker and Linda Campbell, both of Danese; and a stepdaughter, Benny June Murphy of New Philadelphia, Ohio; a son, Elbert "Ace" Kincaid of Danese; a stepson, Cecil Labus of Hico; four sisters, Leta Church and Mary Julia, both of Orlando, Fla., Wanda Lloyd of Panama City, Fla., and Herma Claypool of Salisbury, N.C.; and eight grandchildren. Maynard LAKE ORION, Mich. - Kathleen Brown Maynard, 70, formerly of Oceana, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at her home following a long illness. Born July 31, 1928, in Wharton, she was the daughter of the late Lacy and Gracie Cook Brown. Mrs. Maynard was a homemaker and a member of Lake Orion Church of God. She was also a member of the Eastern Star No. 340 of Lake Orion. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline White. Born May 15, 1932, in Beard, Mr. McMillion was a 1948 graduate of Alderson High School. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Morgan Neel Tharp. Born April 12, 1908, in Ashcamp, Ky., she was the daughter of the late William Monroe and Rachel Elizabeth Keel Bartley. Mrs. Sprouse was a homemaker and a member of the Cross Roads Apostolic Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Arthur "Jake" Sprouse on Oct. 10, 1983; a daughter, Mary Lou Sprouse; a daughter-in-law, Judy Lively Sprouse; and a son-in-law, Henry G. Plasha. Vest, 92, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at a Fairlea medical center following a short illness. Born Sept. 29, 1906, in Jumping Branch, he was the son of the late Luther W. and Georgia Simmons Vest. Mr. Vest was a 63-year resident of Maxwelton and was a member of Clifton Presbyterian Church where he was teacher of mens Sunday school for more than 40 years. He was also an Elder of the church and a Sunday School superintendent and teacher of the former Edgewood Chapel. He was a farmer, retired Postmaster and owner and operator of the Vest Meat Market at Maxwelton. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Clarice Hedrick Vest; two daughters, Mary Alice Yates of Munroe Falls, Ohio, and Georgia Lee Clemens of Leesburg, Va.; a son, Eugene Vest of Damariscotta, Maine; a sister, Zella Bennett of Shady Spring; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Born March 11, 1940, in Hillsboro, he was the son of Dorothy M. Rose Wetherholt of Marlinton, and the late Ruben Wetherholt. Mr. Wetherholt was retired from the U.S. Army and was a member of the Oak Hill Gospel Tabernacle and served during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. Other survivors include his wife, Ruth Hall Wetherholt; three sons, Martin Wetherholt of Paseropos, Calif., Jams Neal of Alta, and John Neal of Anderson, S.C.; two daughters, Ann Buckner of Handley, and Angie Neal of Page; two brothers, Bob Wetherholt of Marlinton, and Roger Wetherholt of Grand Junction, Colo.; three sisters, Judy Wriston of Oak Hill, Carolyn VanReenan of Marlinton, and Roanna Wetherholt of Oak Hill; and 13 grandchildren. Born June 19, 1916, in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late T.R. White and Nora Ann Akers White. Mrs. Wingo was a member of the Mullens Church of God, Black Eagle Road, a lifelong resident of Mullens, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Fisher and Ethel Backus; and a brother, Basil White. Survivors include her husband, Pete G. Wingo; a son, Daniel Wingo and his wife, Marian, of Mullens; two daughters, Kay Webb of Mullens, and Evelyn Bishop and her husband, Bob, of Mullens; three brothers, Emory White of Mullens, Earl White and his wife, Martha, of Max Meadows, Va., and Harold White and his wife, Wanda, of Mullens; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Bishop, Michael Bishop, Scott Wingo, Mark Wingo, Kimberly Woodrum, and Shawna Sizemore; and nine great-grandchildren.
