Register Herald Obituaries for June 4, 1999 Bertie C. Lilly Bertie C. Lilly, 68, of 406 S. Pike St., Beckley, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at her home following a long illness. Born Feb. 20, 1931, at Pineville, she was the daughter of the late Saunders and Tennie Cook. Mrs. Lilly was owner and operator of the Style Mart Beauty Shop in Beckley. She was a member of the Pemberton Baptist Church and has been a resident of Raleigh County for the past 36 years. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Norman Wayne Lilly, and two sisters. Survivors include her husband, Carlos Lilly; a son, Gary Dean Cook of Beckley; two brothers, George Cook of Mullens, and Collice Cook of Pineville; two sisters, Ruby Beverly of Pineville and Hettie Jackson of Greeneville, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Arrangements by Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley. Rosa I. Mynhier CHARLESTON - Rosa I. Fox Patton Mynhier, 83, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, in a Dunbar care center following a long illness. Born June 27, 1915, at Victor, she was the daughter of the late Stevie and Melinda Smith Fox. Mrs. Mynhier was a homemaker and a member of the Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church, Oak Hill. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene Patton, on April 13, 1973; her second husband, A.I. "Jake" Mynhier, on Jan. 18, 1985; a sister, Mary Clark; and two brothers, Earl and Willard Fox. Survivors include two sons, Delbert Patton of Oak Hill, and David Patton of Clarksville, Va.; two daughters, Mary Older of Charleston, and Linda Brown of Nitro; a brother, Fred Fox of Brooksville, Fla.; a sister, Opal Renick of Cocoa, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. "Rex" Parker, 78, near Lerona, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at a Princeton hospital. Born Sept. 30, 1921, at Bellwood, he was the son of the late Clarence P. and Ola Verzene Lewis Parker. Mr. Parker served as a brakeman for Norfolk and Western Railroad, was a retired coal miner for the Eastern Gas and Associates at Herndon retiring in 1985, and was a member of the UMWA Local 9781 of Herndon. He began his radio career in 1939, in the Charleston and Beckley area and in 1941 married Eleanor D. Neira Parker to form the group known to many throughout all of West Virginia and the surrounding states, they were known as "Rex and Eleanor." Their programs were carried on many local radio stations and were featured with various gospel ministries in our area. On May 2, 1997, they were recognized by Gov. Cecil Underwood with the Distinguished West Virginian Award for contributions to mankind, country and western music as well as gospel music and his charity work for various groups such as the March of Dimes and many others. Mr. Parker was a member of the Roger Street Community Church, Princeton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ola Marcina Parker, and a sister, Goldie Fay. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Eleanor D. Neira Parker; a son, Charles Clarence (C.C.) Parker and his wife, Frances, of Waldorf, Md.; two daughters, Concepcion V. Parker (Conizene) and Rexana D. Champ and her husband, Frederick, of Princeton; seven grandchildren, Jackie C. Goff, Virgil Lee Goff, Cecilia Verzene Milam, Lisa Renee Aley, Stephen C. Parker, 2nd Lt. Dr. David Wayne Champ, and Marcina Delleen Champ; 10 grandchildren, Krista Delleen Goff, Jessica Lynn Goff, Rachel Goff, Drake Milam, Devin Milam, Morgan Rae Milam, Sarah Goff, Kimberly Goff, Hannah Elizabeth Aley, and Jacob Hunter Aley; two brothers, Warren H. Pyatt Howard L. Pyatt, 69, of Beckley, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Jan. 29, 1930, at Jesse, in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late William Henry and Nora Jane McMillion Pyatt. Mr. Pyatt spent most of his childhood at Cove Creek, Raleigh County, and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the occupation in Germany. He was a retired coal miner and was of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Shirley Pyatt, and four sisters, Cleo Waycaster, Velma Peters, Flora Densmore and Beulah Cook. Survivors incliude a brother, Silas Pyatt and his wife, Thelma, of Beckley; and two sisters, Mary Cook and Dessie Mae Cook, both of Glen Daniel. Stipe, 70, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at his home in Windham, following a long illness. Born Oct. 16, 1928, at Flemington, he was the son of the late Thurman and Alta Lake Stipe. Mr. Stipe resided in Windham, with his loving niece and her husband, Barbara and Harold Hays. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, was a graduate of Flemington High School, Flemington, W.Va., and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Faye Sheppard Stipe; a daughter, Connie Stipe, and a brother, Ralph Stipe. Other survivors include a brother, Paul Stipe and his wife, Mae, of Grafton; and sisters-in-law, Charlene Spencer of Grafton, Camella Richmond of Ohio, Wanda Lanz and her husband, Gary, of Grafton, Rita Boblett and her husband, Pete, of Beckley; and many nieces and nephews. Born April 10, 1900, in Alleghany County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Harriett Humphries Wolfe. Mrs. Tucker was a homemaker and a member of Castle Heights Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobson Tucker; and two sons, Edward and Roscoe Tucker. Born March 20, 1916, at Wayside, she was the daughter of the late Ashby H. and Maude Gwinn Allen. Mrs. Vass was a homemaker and a member of the Wayside United Methodist Church, Wayside. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradley D. Vass on Oct. 23, 1990; and three brothers, Ernest, Jesse and James Allen.
