Brown BRENTON - Imogene Bessie Brown, 73, of Brenton and Orlando, Fla., died Friday, June 4, 1999, at her home in Brenton following a long illness. Born Feb. 19, 1926, in Guyan, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Luther and Tressie Marie Browning West. Mrs. Brown was a retired business owner and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Brown; a son, Gary Brown; three brothers, Larry, Marshall and Milton West; and a sister, Katherine Mahala. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, French Joe Brown; two daughters, Donna Stafford and her husband, Bill, of Orlando and Janet Brown of Brenton; a son, Richie Brown of Brenton; two brothers, Wetzel West of Lynco and Jerry West of Archdale, N.C.; five sisters, Ruth Stacey of Madison, N.C., Jewel Poole of Trinity, N.C., Wilda Walls of Archdale, N.C., and JoAnn West and Helen Brown, both of Thomasville, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Bessie Harper of Coal Mountain; seven grandchildren, Samatha, Erin, Tonya, Donna, Jimmy, Karen and Christine; five great-grandchildren; special friends, Iola Germain and Gene Smith of Orlando; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Marcella Clark Marcella Clark, 84, of Jonben, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, in a Beckley care center following a long illness. Born Nov. 3, 1914, in Slab Fork, she was the daughter of the late William and Westley Sovonia Putnam. Mrs. Clark was a member of Union Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Clark. Survivors include a devoted sister, Odessa M. Peaks of Nanuet, N.Y.; five nieces; and 13 grandnieces. Deer LEWISBURG - Gladys F. Deer, 93, died at 10:40 a.m. Friday, June 4, 1999, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Jewel D. and Frank Lowe of Echols Acres, following a long illness. Born Oct. 12, 1905, in Lima, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Luvenia McCoy Fox. Mrs. Deer was of the Baptist faith, a homemaker and a member of American Legion Auxiliary No. 69, Lewisburg. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde B. Deer, in 1979; four brothers; and three sisters. Other survivors include a daughter, Clydia Lowe of Lake City, Fla.; two sons, Raymond Brady Deer and his wife, Marvine, of Lake City and Randall F. Deer and his wife, Ruth, of Princeton; four grandchildren, Jerry Lowe and his wife, Susan, of Manassas, Va., Stephen Lowe and his wife, Norma, of Lewisburg, Yvonne Humble and her husband, Jim, of Crestwood, Ky., and Dr. Timothy R. Hypes FAYETTEVILLE - Mabel J. Hypes, 79, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, in a Princeton hospital following a long illness. Born Sept. 13, 1919, in Wheeler, she was the daughter of the late John and Angeline Knicely Johnson. Mrs. Hypes was a retired school teacher for the Fayette County Board of Education. She was a member of Fayetteville Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville Women's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and the Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Bickel, Genevieve Nicholson and Nellie Fisher. Survivors include her husband, David L. Hypes; and several nieces and nephews. Born Feb. 28, 1934, in Baileysville, she was the daughter of Virginia Crutchfield Beasley of Penrose, Colo., and the late Joseph Brown. Mrs. McClaugherty was a housewife and attended First Church of God, Corinne. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon McClaugherty. Survivors include three sons, Charles "Tim" McClaugherty and his wife, Brenda, of Herndon, Steve McClaugherty and his wife, Vanessa, of Mims, Fla., and Robert "Bobby" McClaugherty and his wife, Margaret, of Herndon; a daughter, Mary "Kathy" Campbell and her husband, Hoppy, of Beckley; two sisters, Pat Clem and her husband, Walter, and Sue Cantor and her husband, Eddie, all of Penrose, Colo.; and seven grandchildren. McCree, 102, of Lester, died of natural causes Wednesday, June 2, 1999, in a Beckley hospital. Born July 23, 1896, in Eutaw, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Willie Gordan and Elmira Wallace Gordan. Mrs. McCree was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Lester, where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Missionary Society and mother of the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. McCree; a son, William H. McCree Jr.; three brothers, Eugene, Ollie and Willie Gordan Jr.; and two sisters, Gertrude Burggers and Anna Coleman. Nessler, 66, of Franklin Hill Road, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at her home. Born in Bolt, she was the daughter of the late Roby M. and Pearl May (Taylor) Dolinger. Mrs. Nessler was employed as a cottage training technician at Hunderton State School, Clinton, N.J. She had been a resident of Bangor since 1993, coming from Crab Orchard, and was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church, Crab Orchard, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. Survivors include three sons, Edward L. Allen of Roseto, Ronald A. Allen of Phillipsburg, N.J., and Alan S. Allen of Alabama; two daughters, Kathy M. Allen of Dover, Del., and Deborah A. Veres, with whom she resided; two brothers, Willis Dollinger of Crab Orchard and Donald Dollinger of California; three sisters, Oregan Mitchem of Crab Orchard, Frieda Dollinger of Dover and Velva Stewarts of Hatfield, Pa.; and four grandchildren. Born March 17, 1911, in Glen Jean, she was the daughter of the late Warden Hammond Minnis, who preceded her in death in 1924, and Maggie Lavender Minnis, who preceded her in 1965. Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, McVellar Minnis in 1958 and Warden "Tom" Minnis in 1990; and a sister, Lorene Minnis, in 1995. Survivors include five children, Daniel Wilson of Seattle, Raymond Wilson of Harlem Heights, George Rose of Brooklyn, N.Y., Louise Blanks of Harlem Heights and Jo Ann Wilson of Minden; two sisters, Inez Jones and Arthella Minnis, both of Minden; 31 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
