Register Herald Obituaries for June 16, 1999 George E. Heald KILSYTH -- George Edward Heald, 84, died Monday, June 14, 1999, in a Hilltop care center following a long illness. Born Oct. 18, 1914, in Beckwith, he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Florence Wilson Heald. Mr. Heald was a retired coal miner and a World War II U.S. Army veteran., He was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna Heddinge; and two brothers, Wirt Heald and Huston Richards. Survivors include a son, George Heald of Cleveland; a daughter, Brenda Hardin of Chillicothe, Ohio; two nieces, Anna Mae Hager of Logan and Shirley Keller of Oak Hill; a nephew, Charles Heald of Salt Rock; and four grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Kenny Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post No. 3110 of Oak Hill. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Hunt Sr. OCEANA -- Charles Clinton Hunt Sr., 62, died Monday, June 14, 1999, at a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Aug. 13, 1936, in Lebanon, Ind., he was the son of Geraldine Dowden Hunt of Oceana and the late Ora David Fremont Hunt. Mr. Hunt was a pharmacist, a member of the West Virginia Pharmacy Association, the Indiana Pharmacy Association and Purdue University Alumni Association. He graduated from the Purdue University School of Pharmacy in 1958. He was a member of Oceana First United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge for 42 years and Clear Fork Valley Golf Course. Mr. Hunt was former owner of Hunt's Pharmacy. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Ray Hunt. Other survivors include his wife of 40 years, Phyllis Purkhiser Hunt; a son, Charles Clinton "Chuck" Hunt Jr. of Oceana; two daughters, Gerri Jean Lusk and her husband, Dale, of Oceana and Cindy Rae Stewart and her husband, Buren, of Oceana; and three grandchildren, Charles Clinton "Trey" Hunt III, Charles "David" Lusk and Samantha Rae Lusk, all of Oceana. Born Oct. 23, 1984, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Terry C. Maxey of Beckley and Mary Bragg Maxey of Crab Orchard. Crystal was a student at Beckley-Stratton Junior High School and would have been a student at Woodrow Wilson High School in the fall of 1999. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Hobert and Opal Bragg; paternal great-grandfather, Dale Curtis Maxey; and an uncle, Dennis Simmons. Other survivors include a brother, Terry Travis Maxey, a half brother, Christopher Shively II and two sisters, Jessica L. Maxey and Natascha D. Maxey, all at home; paternal grandparents, Ted Maxey of Oak Hill and Carolyn Maxey of MacArthur; a great-grandmother, Fran Maxey; and a great-great-grandmother, Elizabeth Wood. Shrewsbury, 77, of Shady Spring, died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born July 13, 1921, in Dott, he was the son of the late Levi H. and Bessie Pearl Sneed Shrewsbury Mr. Shrewsbury was a retired coal miner, retiring from Westmoreland Coal Co., East Gulf, and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 492nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. He was a member of the Mount Valley Baptist Church, Odd, where he served the Lord faithfully for years, performing duties as deacon, superintendent and Sunday school teacher before becoming disabled. He attended Trinity Baptist Church, Shady Spring. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Moses, Levi Jr., Ozena, Glenver and Vernoy Shrewsbury, and a sister, Gayzona Lester. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Julia Hester Foley Shrewsbury; two sons, Ronald J. Shrewsbury and his wife, Mai, of Sacramento, Calif., and Timmie Joe Shrewsbury and his wife, Kathy, of Oklahoma; four daughters, Phyllis Walker and her husband, Leroy, of Egeria, Kay Cottle of Spanishburg, Dolly Farley and her husband, Randy, of Odd and Ruth Coleman and her husband Jim, of Ghent; four sisters, Geneva Meadows of Ghent, Rivanna Shrewsbury of Stephenson, Cleoria Dunlap of Arlington, Va., and Rachel Reese and her husband, Pat, of Peterstown; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Snuffer, 59, formerly of Crab Orchard, died at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 13, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born Aug. 7, 1939, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of Letha Leona Taylor Snuffer of Beckley and the late Carl H. Snuffer. Mr. Snuffer was a self-employed painting contractor and a veteran, having served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He was of the Baptist faith and had been a resident of Hedgesville for the past eight years. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Dave Snuffer and Jimmy Snuffer. Other survivors include his wife, Betty Blankenship Snuffer; a daughter, Marsha Muncy of Baltimore; two sons, Larry Snuffer Jr. of Maryland and Carl Snuffer of Hedgesville; a stepdaughter, Melissa Neice of Martinsburg; three sisters, Sadie J. Hanson of Glen View, Elsie Mae Lane of Crab Orchard and Carl Sue Mankamyer of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Donald Blane Snuffer and Lonnie Dale Snuffer, both of Glen View; special friend, Shelly Howard of Baltimore; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
