Register Herald Obituaries for June 17, 1999 Frances G. Abram LASHMEET - Frances Gladys Abram, 78, of 2136 Reese Harmon Ridge, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at her home. Born Sept. 14, 1920, in Welch, she was the daughter of the late William David Proffitt and Elizabeth Jane Bailey Proffitt. Mrs. Abram was a member and active worker of Weyanoke Church of God for 48 years and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Abram; a son, Randy; and a daughter, Wanda. Survivors include three sons, the Rev. Kenneth Abram and his wife, Brenda, of Weyanoke and Clarence Abram and Phillip Abram, both of Burlington, N.C.; nine daughters, Patricia Swain and her husband, Woody, of Monticello, Fla., Bonnie Robertson and her husband, Amos, of Palm Harbor, Fla., Elizabeth Bragg and her husband, Kermit "Bud," of Ghent, Norma Jenkins of Fredericksburg, Va., Marie Thompson of Martinsville, Va., Delores Stanley and Barbara Bailey Abram, both of Lake Shawnee, Debbie Sisk and her husband, Carlos, of Princeton and Wilma Meadows and her husband, Jerry, of Lashmeet; a sister, Anna Belle Perkins of Marango Valley, Calif.; 28 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Weyanoke Church of God with the Revs. Kenneth Abram and Wayne Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. Alice W. Boone HURRICANE - Alice Whanger Boone, 89, formerly of Hinton and Arlington, Va., died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at a Hurricane care home following a long illness. Born Dec. 20, 1909, in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Samuel A. and Annie P. Kean Whanger. Mrs. Boone lived most of her life in Arlington and lived the early part of her life in Hinton. She was a retired homemaker and a member of Hinton First United Methodist Church and the DAR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Rankin R. Boone; three brothers, Julian K., Edgar M., and Alfred Whanger; and four sisters, Mabel Meadows, Nina Harrison, Harriett Read and Ruth Whanger. Survivors include a daughter, Alice Rae Boone Riecks and her husband, J. Charles, of Hurricane; two granddaughters, Kathryn Riecks of New York City and Martha Riecks Tracey and her husband, Christopher, of Reston, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Born Dec. 14, 1924, in Oceana, he was the son of the late J. Earl and Lula A. Rollins Cook. Mr. Cook was a retired coal miner from Eastern Associated Coal Corp. with 44 years of employment. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Company B, 504th Parachute Infantry. He was awarded the American Theater Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, EAME Ribbon with three Battle Stars, World Ward II Victory Medal and Purple Heart. Mr. Cook was a member of Oceana Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James E. Cook and Henry E. Cook. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Florine Meade Cook; a son, Harry Dale Cook of Beckley; a daughter, Debra K. Cook of Oceana; two grandsons, Darrell D. Cook of Matheny and N. Jeff Cook of Beckley; a granddaughter, Holly J. Garretson HILLSBORO - Clara Mae Mitchem Garretson, 84, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, in a Buckeye hospital following a long illness. Born Aug. 31, 1914, in Killarney, she was the daughter of the late Henry Floyd Mitchem and Minnie Opal Cole Mitchem. Mrs. Garretson was a homemaker and a longtime member of Marlinton Church of God, which was one of many she helped establish with her late husband. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Estil Bryant Garretson; a stillborn infant child; two brothers, John Lewis Mitchem and James Clifford Mitchem; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Born June 4, 1917, in Goodview, Va., he was the son of the late Silas Peter and Sarah Frances Sweeney Stanley. Mr. Stanley was a World War II Army veteran, a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and a member of Rupert Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Stanley, George Stanley and J.P. Stanley; and three sisters, Nellie Sowers, Curtis Richmond and Jessie Richmond. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jessie L. Gill Stanley; three sons, Charles H. Stanley Jr. and his wife, Dora, of Rupert, Thomas M.
