Register Herald Obituaries for June 21, 1999 Mary Merle Bailey Mary Merle Bailey, 95, of Daniels, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at the Raleigh Rehabilitation Center at Daniels following a long illness. Born March 24, 1904, at Daniels, she was the daughter of the late H. D. and Emma Bailey. Miss Bailey was a homemaker and former housekeeper. She was a member of the Open Door Church at Shady Spring, a lifelong Daniels resident and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by six brothers, P.O. Bailey, Harry F. Bailey, Woodrow J. Bailey, Clyde Bailey, Dewey Bailey and Ray Bailey; and three sisters, Bonnie, Edith and Garnet. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Graveside rites and burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Williams Cemetery at White Oak with the Rev. George Smith officiating. There will be no visitation. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Chenoweth Jr., 64, died Friday, June 18, 1999, in a Florida hospital following a long illness. Born Dec. 7, 1934, at Junior, he was the son of Vera A. Corley Chenoweth of Terrace Street, Hinton, and the late Arthur G. Chenoweth Sr. Mr. Chenoweth was a veteran with the U.S. Army and a member of the First Baptist Church in Port Lucie, Fla. He was also retired from Pratt-Whitney with 37 years of service. Mr. Chenoweth was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Jo Ann Honaker Chenoweth at home; one daughter, Sue Lynn Chenoweth of Fort Pierce, Fla.; one son, Carey Douglas Chenoweth of Port Lucie, Fla.; and one sister, Barbara J. Meador of Zephyrhills, Fla. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with the Rev. Delvin Elwell officiating. Burial will follow in Huffman Cemetery at Buck. McDaniel Greer departed her life on earth to live with God in Heaven on Tuesday, June 15, 1999, following a long illness. Born July 14, 1906, in Berry, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rebecca McDaniel. Mrs. Greer was of the Baptist faith and had made her home in Hawthorne, Fla., with her son Tommy and his wife Gladys Greer for the past several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Greer, a son, James "Jimmy" Greer and a daughter, Audrey "Bootsie" Drumheller. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Greer and his wife Gladys of Hawthorne, Fla., and Kenneth Greer, and his wife Brenda of Fireco; two daughters, Lola Belle Belcher and her husband Gene of Jacksonville, Fla., and Helen Fink and her husband Jerry of Crab Orchard; a brother, Glen McDaniel of Beckley; and 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. today at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Gary Eskins officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Oral Lee Mann LINDSIDE‹Oral Lee Mann, 77, of Cooks Run Road, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, in a Virginia hospital. Born Aug. 27, 1921, at Greenville, he was the son of the late Elliot "EG" and Nina Mann. Mr. Mann was a former vo tech instructor for the Monroe County Board of Education, a past district governor and member of the Greenville Ruritan Club, past president of the Monroe County Board of Education, was active in Little League Baseball and was a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jamie Mann. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Nora Parker Mann; two sons, Marshall and wife Vicki of Morgantown and Melvin and wife Deidre of Charleston; a daughter, Susan Nichols of Denver, Colo.; three brothers, Ernest of Charlotte, N.C., Derrell and wife Bonnie of Minnesota, and Dennis and wife Clara of Lindside; two sisters, Gladys Rogers of Peterstown and Lucy Grey Canterbury of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Emily Dempsey Saplak Emily Iwilda Dempsey Saplak, 76, of Oak Hill, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Sept. 18, 1922, in Ansted, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Beulah Harrison Dempsey of Ansted. Ms. Saplak was a housewife and was a retired factory assembler from Moen Faucet/Stynadyne. She was a graduate of Ansted High School and a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Saplak; one daughter, Sharyn S. VanMeter; a brother, Bernard H. Dempsey; and a sister, Janavee Franks. Survivors include a son, Gerald T. Saplak of Weston; a daughter, Sarah Saplak Siwek of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, John George Dempsey of Oak Hill; two sisters, Lena White of Lansing and Othelia Tillette Rippetoe of Lansing; four grandchildren, Anthony H. Webb Virginia H. Webb, 77, of Brenton, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born May 11, 1922, at Grayson, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Robert Osborne and Myrtle Osborne Farmer. Mrs. Webb had lived in Wyoming County since 1933. She also resided, during the summertime, at Lake Stephens, Lot No. 13, for over 25 years. She was a member of the Brenton Church of God and ,while camping during the season at Lake Stephens, she attended the Bolt Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie L. Webb; a grandson, Sammy Don Webb; a sister, Marie Browning; and a half sister, Shelby Farmer Regal.
