Born June 7, 1919, in Pine Oak, he was the son of the late William Basham and Harriett Louvada Belcher Basham. Mr. Basham was an employee of Pepsi Bottling Plant in Princeton and the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cleveland and Ed Basham. Survivors include a sister, Litha Mae Lusk of New Richmond; and a host of nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Arlon White officiating. Burial will follow in Bowling Cemetery, Spanishburg. Born Jan. 29, 1911, in Glen Rogers, she was the daughter of the late Wood and Flora Belle Cook. Mrs. Cook was a homemaker and a member of Guyandotte Baptist Church, Jesse. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Wilson Cook; two daughters, Sarah Ernestene Cook Greene and Lillian Carol Cook; a son, George Quinton Cook; a brother, Vaughn Carson Cook; and three sisters, Lois Cook Bowden, Glady Cook Carter and Garnett Cook Brooks. Survivors include six sons, Wilson R. Cook and his wife, Claudia, of Jesse, Charles W. Cook of Jesse, Ronald C. Cook and his wife, Carolyn, of Oceana, Thomas L. Arlie Milo Gwinn MEADOW BRIDGE - Arlie Milo Gwinn, 67, of Backus Mountain, Fayette County, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 1, 1932, in Lockbridge, he was the son of the late Spurgeon and Margaret Iow Burdette Gwinn. Mr. Gwinn was a lifelong resident of Meadow Bridge, a member of Lockbridge United Methodist Church and a disabled coal miner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife, Treca Goddard Gwinn, in 1977; a sister, Marie Kessler; three brothers, Charles Gwinn, Junior Bliss and Jack Dempsey Gwinn; and his grandparents, Labin and Susan Gwinn and Cara Burdette and Lida. Survivors include a daughter, Treca Kay Gwinn of Meadow Bridge; three sons, Arlie Milo Gwinn Jr. and his wife, Susan, Timothy Allen Gwinn and his wife, Kellie, and Denver Kyle Gwinn, all of Meadow Bridge; four sisters, Thelma Jean Fitzwater of Bel Air, Md., Joyce Garretson and her husband, Jim, of Meadow Bridge, June Carden of Hinton and Mary Jane Phillips and her husband, William, of Pipestem; a brother, Teddy Gwinn of Meadow Bridge; and four grandchildren. Louise Dodd Loukx MULLENS - Louise Dodd Loukx, 86, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and James Sarver of Mullens, following a short illness. Born Oct. 2, 1912, in Minden, she was the daughter of the late Kelly and Ora Belle Sorrell Dodd. Mrs. Loukx was a homemaker and a former clerk and seamstress in the dry cleaning business. She had been a resident of Michigan since 1950, formerly of Oak Hill and Minden, and for the past year she had been a resident of Mullens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Loukx, in 1966; a sister, Gladys Jones; two brothers, Roy and Ralph Dodd; a great-granddaughter, Jeanne Sarver. Additional survivors include two daughters, Shirley Alley and her husband, Walt, of Lowndesville, S.C., and Patricia Wolenski and her husband, David, of Sterling Heights, Mich.; a sister, Margie Zastawniak of Minden; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Skeen BLUEFIELD, W.Va. ­ George Craig Skeen, 93, of Route 5, Box 298, died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at his home. Born Oct. 30, 1905, in Big Stone Gap, Va., he was the son of the late James B. Skeen and Zoe D. Pennington Skeen. Mr. Skeen had been a resident of Bluefield for 45 years and was a retired chief electrician for Eastern Gas and Fuel in Keystone, Helen and Sophia. He had also worked for Fordson Coal Company in Stone, Ky., Red Jacket Coal Company in Wyoming, and Peerless Coal and Coke in Vivian. He was a graduate of Big Stone Gap High School in Big Stone Gap, Va., and Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill. He was a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple in Charleston and was a 50-year Noble. He was a member of the Pineville Lodge No. 138 AD and AM in Pineville, and was a member of the Brushfork United Methodist Church in Bluefield, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hassie Lambert Skeen; a son, Danny Ray Skeen; and a brother, Jay B. Skeen. Survivors include two daughters, Nellie Zoe Perdue and husband, William A., of Bluefield, and Mollie Jo Comer and husband, Harry, of Bluefield; a son, George Samuel Skeen and wife, Jeannie, of Bluefield; grandchildren: Zoe Ann Merkle of Norfolk, Va., Craig Anderson of Boca Raton, Fla., Rama Cardwell of Bluefield, Todd Comer of Chesapeake, Va., Frankie Skeen of Roebuck, S.C., John Skeen of Roebuck, S.C., and James Skeen of Byron, Ga.; great-grandchildren: Jeremy Merkle, Craig Cardwell, Ryan Cardwell, Cydney Comer, Crystal Skeen, Justin Skeen, Sharon Skeen and Catherine Skeen; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, John "J.C." White; a daughter, Barbara Barton; three sisters, Virgie Eastman, Effie Vipperman and Maggie Nuckolls; and four brothers, Bertie Pennington, Bernard Pennington, Odell Pennington and James Pennington.
