Register Herald Obituaries for June 26, 1999 Lillian Mae Chambers Lillian Mae Shue Chambers, 98, of Beckley, formerly of Mullens, died Friday, June 25, 1999, at a Beckley hospital. Born July 4, 1900, at Peterstown, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Eliza Meadows Shue. Mrs. Chambers was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Paul Chambers Sr.; and a granddaughter, Paula Morris. Survivors include a son, Robert Paul Chambers and his wife, Pauline, of Brandon, Fla.; three daughters, Mildred Chambers of Beckley, Joanne Frazier of Union and Alice June Morris of Beckley; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Robert Coburn officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley. Halloran Jr., 79, died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born Feb. 16, 1920, in Summers County, he was the son of the late Percy B. and Mable Dunn Halloran. Mr. Halloran was a storekeeper for the Federal Correctional Institution at Alderson, where he retired in 1973 after 21 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Talcott. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona W. "Peg" Halloran, in 1991; and a brother, Billy Dan Halloran, in 1984. Survivors include a son, Richard B. Halloran and his wife, Jo Ellen, and a daughter, Jane Ellen Thompson and her husband, Ross, all of Talcott; four grandchildren, Lori Rarig and her husband, Chris, of Catawissa, Pa., Jo Lynn Halloran of Talcott, Teresa K. Thompson of St. Albans and Joel R. Born Sept. 23, 1918, in Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Burgess and Ada Brooks Burgess. Mrs. Harvey was a retired payroll supervisor for Martin Marietta in Michigan. Born Aug. 20, 1907, in Pembroke, Va., she was the daughter of the late James M. and Ellen Katherine Britts Bass-ham. Mrs. Lilly was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Beckley, having lived on North Oakwood since 1949. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church, Courthouse Square. She was preceded in death on Dec. 15, 1992, by her husband, Lacy Bernard Lilly, whom she married on Oct. 24, 1931; and a sister, Sadie Rae Bassham, in 1914. Survivors include three cousins, J.C. Montgomery and Mrs. W.T. (Mary) Santolla, both of Pembroke, and Harold Joe Via of Beckley; and three sisters-in-law, Ophia and Ruby Davis, both of Beckley, and Lillian Sherry of Grandview, Tenn. Menders MORRISTOWN, Tenn. -- Clifton R. Menders, 74, died Thursday, June 24, 1999, in Tennessee following a short illness. Born Sept. 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Norman and Pearl Chesbro Menders. Mr. Menders served in the U.S. Army with the 299th Combat Engineers during World War II. He was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and Humana Corp. He was a member of First Christian Church, Morristown, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher, and was also a former member and elder of Ronceverte Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Bennett Menders; two daughters, Lara E. Miller of Lexington, Va., and Gaynelle S. Morgan of Lewisburg; three sons, Charles C. Menders of Charleston, Thomas R. Menders of Sugar Hill, Ga., and Robert E. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the United Mine Workers of America. He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Ray Reese.
