Register Herald Obituaries for June 27, 1999 David L. Brackenridge RUPERT - David L. "Davis" Brackenridge, 73, passed away Thursday, June 24, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Nov. 13, 1925, at Keiffer, he was the son of the late Charlie and Sally Thomas Brackenridge. Mr. Brackenridge was a disabled veteran of the Army having served in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was a barber and of the Protestant faith. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar, Herbert, Harry and Ezra Brackenridge; five sisters and one son, Meckey. Survivors include three daughters, Shelia Sousa of Crows Landing, Calif., Kathy Case of Turlock, Calif., and Kimberly Brackenridge of Conway, Ark.; four sons, Ricci Brackenridge of Turlock, Calif., David L. Brackenridge Jr. of Kadina AFB, Japan, Barry Brackenridge of Kingsport, Tenn., and Tobe Brackenridge of Covington, Va.; one brother, Daniel Brackenridge of Covington, Va.; one sister, Elizabeth Underwood of Ohio; and nine grandchildren. Services will be Monday at Smathers Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Groves officiating. Born Jan. 24, 1914, in Chilhowie, Va., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Nannie Davis Minton. She was a homemaker and a member of Sophia Freewill Baptist Church and Women's Group. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, Wiley V. Cullop Sr., and one son, John David Cullop. Survivors include her husband, William C. Combs of Sophia; seven sons, Wiley V. Cullop Jr. of Ghent, James R. Cullop of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Walker D. Cullop of Camden, Del., Richard L. Cullop of Stafford, Va., Alvie M. Cullop of Roanoke, Va., Thomas C. Cullop of Hickory, N.C., and Greg A. Cullop of Mabscott; eight daughters, Barbara M. Flanagan of Beckley, Marion V. Fox of Ghent, Helen L. Crager of Montoursville, Pa., Mary L. Shrewsbury of Manassas, Va., Shirley K. Thompson of Ghent, Rosa L. Casteel of Ghent, Brenda S. Toothman of Atlanta and Karen E. Roark of Coal City; four sisters, Lavon Blackwell of Florida, Ora Mae Shumate of Beckley, Beulah Johnson of Raleigh, N.C., and Ruby Beheler of Roanoke, Va.; 41 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Born Aug. 26, 1911, at Mabscott, he was the son of the late S. L. and Lula Forrest Dillon. Mr. Dillon spent his childhood in Besoco and Lego. He was a retired bookkeeper. He attended the Crab Orchard Baptist Church and was the last survivor of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Buenia Dillon. Survivors include a daughter, Jill Cole and her husband, Joel, of Odd, and a son, Joe Dillon of Beckley; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Fitzpatrick was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar E. Fitzpatrick, and a son, Charles E. Fitzpatrick. Survivors include three daughters, Velma Emogene Skaggs of Columbus, Ind., Cynthia Elizabeth "Midge" Richards and her husband, Irvin J. Richards, and Edith Loretta DeWees of Hometown; one son, William Harvey "Bill" and his wife, Margie L. Fitzpatrick, of Cipio, Ind.; one daughter-in-law, Inez Fitzpatrick Johnson of Edinburg, Ind.; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Myrtle Higginbotham of West Virginia and Carolee Filler Delacruz and Uldine Presser both of California. Home, Mullens. Isabelle H. Hudnall RONCEVERTE - Isabelle H. Hudnall, 87, died Thursday, June 24, 1999, in a Greenbrier medical center following a short illness. Born in Putnam County, she had lived most of her life in Nitro. Mrs. Hudnall was a three-year resident of Ronceverte, former clothing salesperson with A. W. Cox Department Stores in Nitro and a homemaker. She was a former member of the P.T.A., the Nitro Women's Club and a Member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Nitro. She was also a Happy Traveler. Survivors include one daughter, Joan Foster of Ronceverte; one son, John Howard Hudnall of Merced, Calif.; one brother, Ralph M. Harrison of Tampa, Fla.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Nitro with the Rev. Dr. Okey B. Harless officiating. Meadows IRON STATION, N.C. - Kathleen Dempsey Meadows, 85, formerly of Beckley died at the Lincoln-ton (N.C.) Hos-pital Friday, June 25, 1999, following a long illness. Born April 17, 1914, at Omar, she was the daughter of the late Dow and Mona Fouch Demp-sey Baumgartner. Mrs. Meadows was a homemaker, a member of the Beckley Church of God, and had been a resident of Iron Station for a short period of time, having lived many years in Logan County and the Beckley area for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Meadows, and a brother, Casey Dempsey. Survivors include her sister, Roxie Estep of Iron Station, N.C.; and foster nephew Eddie Fox and his wife, Mary Ann, with whom she made her home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Peace Chapel with the Rev. Robert Prichard and the Rev. F. D. Sexton officiating. Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley. Robert Jeffrey Ratliff RICHLANDS, Va. - Robert Jeffrey Ratliff died in his home Thursday, June 24, 1999, at the age of 58. Mr. Ratliff was raised in Itmann and lived in Gloucester County for the past 11 years. Mr. Ratliff retired in 1986 following 241/2 years of service with the U.S. Air Force and as a civil servant in the civil engineering squadron at Langley AFB. He was also a Vietnam veteran and a member of the Mullens Lodge 151, AF&AM, Mullens. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin and Florence White Ratliff. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Beverly Joann Ratliff; one son, Brian Jeffrey Ratliff and his wife, Kim, of American Fork, Utah; one daughter, Becky Joann Ratliff Aycock and her husband, Christopher, of Mechanicsville, Va.; one brother, Samuel Joseph Ratliff and his wife, Barbara, of Elkview; two grandchildren, Brandi Nicole Ratliff and Robert "Bobby" Jeffrey Ratliff. Services were held in Gloucester, Va., on Saturday. Charles Sizemore Charles Owen Sizemore, 84, of MacArthur, died Friday, June 25, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Dec. 14, 1914, in White Sulphur Springs, he was the son of the late Harden H. and Ollie E. Masters Sizemore. Mr. Sizemore spent his childhood on Anthony's Creek Road in White Sulphur Springs. He joined the Army in 1942. After leaving the Army, Mr. Sizemore worked as a maintenance employee for Pinecrest Hospital for 10 years and was the owner and operator of Sizemore Jewelry on South Kanawha Street in Beckley for 20 years. Mr. Sizemore was a former member of the Bradley Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul F., Willis F. and Everette M. Sizemore; and by one sister, Nellie M. Nelson. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Thelma Whitt Sizemore; one son, Douglas R. Sizemore and his fiancee, Sandy A. Muncy, of Charles-ton; a granddaughter, Amanda Sizemore; a stepgranddaughter, Trina Muncy; a sister, Violet W. Coleman of Covington, Va.; and a brother, Wyatte R. "Frank" Sizemore of Covington, Va. Committal services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Garden of the Apostles in Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Bluefield-Princeton Road. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.
