Register Herald Obituaries for March 30, 2000 Billy H. Baker GARTEN - Billy Harold Baker, 75, died Monday, March 27, 2000, in the VA Medical Center, Beckley, following a long illness. Born Oct. 26, 1924, in Edenburg, Va., he was the son of the late Ruth Baker Cook. Mr. Baker was a retired claims adjuster for Geico Insurance and a member of the Lutheran faith. He was a Rotarian, an avid golfer and a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Shirley G. Toombs Baker; three daughters, Cecilia Butler of Woodbridge, Va., Gloria Swink of Fairhope, Ala., and Sharon Traino of Ellicott City, Md.; a brother, Charles L. "Lindy" Baker of Vienna, Va.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Dr. David Carrico officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Bennett CONWAY, S.C. - Charles Wade Bennett, 50, of Highway 548, formerly of Raleigh County, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at his home. Born in Raleigh County, he was the son of the late Wade Thomas and Victoria Bennett. Mr. Bennett's love for remodeling old cars and drawing was surpassed only by his love for his family. His attention to the finest detail was evident in everything he did, including his work as an electrician at Melton Electric in Conway. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and co-workers. Survivors include his former wife, Nancy Bennett of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a son, Thomas Wade Bennett of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Helga Bennett and her fiancé, Bill Lanning, of Boca Raton, Fla.; two brothers, Donald Bennett and Ervil Bennett, both of Beckley; and five sisters, Genny Stump, Geneva Moten, Lou Reynolds and Norma Atkins, all of Beckley, and Rita Plumley of Detroit. Survivors include his wife of 361}2 years, Sandra Walker Kincaid, formerly of Daniels; three daughters, Parthenia, Katrina and Rayvonna Kincaid of Toledo; a son, Jessie "J.E." Born July 3, 1964, in Hinton, he was the son of James and Gladys Phillips Lemon of Hinton. Mr. Lemon was self-employed and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, John David Lemon; and a nephew, Cody Allen Bragg. Other survivors include two daughters, Donna and Peggy Lemon of Connecticut; three brothers, Gary Wayne, James Lee and Roger Lemon, all of Hinton; five sisters, Jane Vandall of Sandstone, Kathi Duncan of Oak Hill, Carolyn Lemon and Lisa Bragg, both of Hinton, and Tammy Bragg of Bellepoint. Rossmeyer Laura Bays Rossmeyer, 63, of Beckley, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, in Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., following a long illness. Born Sept. 10, 1936, in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late I. Wilbur and Hetty Bays. Mrs. Rossmeyer was a 1954 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and a 1958 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was a retired teacher in Raleigh County, last teaching at Shady Spring Junior High School. She was a member of United Methodist Temple, serving on the Outreach Committee. She was a 30-year member of the Board of Directors of the City Housing Authority of Beckley, most recently serving as vice chairperson. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Housing Association of Housing Agencies, the National Commissioner Committee of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Organization and Delta Kappa Gamma, and a former member of the Woman's Club of Beckley, where she was Junior of the Year in 1972. She also served on the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Association of Mental Health. She was a past president of the Raleigh County Education Association. She was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Eileen Bays. Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Lisa Wade and her husband, Martin, of Memphis and Lori Cobb and her husband, Dr. W.W. Cobb, of Huntsville, Ala.; three grandchildren, Marshall Sommers Wade, Meredith Bays Wade and Wesley Christian Cobb; a sister, Linda Bays Cooper and her husband, T. Richard, of Ghent; a niece, Laura Elizabeth Cooper; and a nephew, Thomas Richard Cooper III. Memorial services will be noon Friday at United Methodist Temple, Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley. Born March 31, 1933, at Clear Creek, he was the son of the late Lonnie and Hillie Pearl Maynor Williams. Mr. Williams was a retired coal miner, having worked for Central Appalachian, Morris Creek. He was a member of Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 AF and AM, where he served as tiler, Sewell Chapter No. 24 RAM, Mount Hope Commandery No. 22 KT and Beni Kedem Temple AAONMS, Charleston. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Wilbert Williams. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Dorothy McMillion Williams; two sons, Ronnie L. Williams and his wife, Bonnie, of Kimberly and Orba A. Williams Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Kincaid; three daughters, Betty M. Harler and her husband, William, of Page, Donna M. Robertson of Fayetteville and Tammy L.
