Register Herald Obituaries for March 31, 2000 Rev. Mark S. Barnett PRINCETON - The Rev. Mark S. Barnett, 41, of 110 Village Green Park, died peacefully Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Princeton Community Hospital from a long battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Born Sept. 24, 1958, in Bluefield, he was the son of Joseph Barnett of Glenwood Park and the late Marie Morris Barnett Walling. The Rev. Barnett was a 1976 graduate of Princeton High School, received an A.S. degree from Bluefield State College in 1978, was a graduate of Clear Creek Bible College in Middlesboro, Ky., in 1995 and was honored to receive the R.T. Mahan Founders Award. He was pastor of Pineville Southern Baptist Church from 1995 to 1999 and volunteer chaplain of Wyoming Continuous Care Center in Wyoming County. Prior to being called to the ministries, he worked in retail management with Leggett's, Belk, Roses and JC Penney in this area. Other survivors include his devoted wife, Angela Dillon Barnett; a daughter, Michelle Barnett at home; a son, Steven Barnett at home; a brother, Greg Barnett and his wife, Kim, of Princeton; his stepmother, Barbara Stovall Barnett of Princeton; and several aunts, uncles and cousins in the area. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Burns-Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton, with the Revs. Gary Swogger, Randy Cline and Randy Turpin, formerly of Princeton, officiating. Eddie Blankenship WYTHEVILLE, Va. - The Rev. Eddie L. Blankenship, 77, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Wythe County Community Hospital. Born May 8, 1922, in Welch, he was the son of the late Henry and Rinda Blankenship of McDowell County. The Rev. Blankenship served with Company E, 376th Infantry Regiment, in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was licensed in 1956 as a minister and ordained in 1958 into the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, Appalachian Conference. He was a member of the Local Union 9690, having worked 23 years in West Virginia coal mines. The Rev. Blankenship pastored six churches in Virginia and West Virginia. He was best known for combining his artistic talents and musical talents with his call to preach. He worked many years at the Appalachian Conference grounds with summer youth camps. He held youth services and revivals in many states. He painted many murals and paintings that hang in churches along the East Coast, always using his talents to glorify the Lord. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Bertie Mitchem Blankenship; a brother, Cecil Blankenship; two infant sisters; and a son-in-law, Gerald Thomas. Survivors include his wife of four years, Millie Spencer Blankenship; two twin sons and daughter-in-law, Gale and Frances Blankenship of Reading, Pa., and Dale Blankenship of Corona, Calif.; two daughters and son-in-law, Sandra Thomas of Pocahontas, Va., and Robin and Rick Hatfield of Mullens; seven brothers, Junior Blankenship of Maitland, Elmer and Johnny Blankenship, both of Flint, Mich., Ted Blankenship of Tennessee, Jim Blankenship of Premier, David Blankenship of Florida and Bud Blankenship of Welch; three sisters, Thelma Sliger of Florida, Stella Akers of North Carolina and Shelby Mullins of Mississippi; a stepdaughter and spouse, Carolyn and G.T. Dineen WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - Doris Louise Dineen, 84, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a short illness. Born June 4, 1915, in French Lick, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Homer and Dora Mae Bundy. Mrs. Dineen was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, White Sulphur Springs, a retired employee of The Greenbrier hotel and a former member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeremiah Paul Dineen, in 1970. Survivors include two sons, J.R. "Dick" Dineen and his wife, Juanita, of White Sulphur Springs and John Charles Dineen and his wife, Carolyn, of Savannah, Tenn.; a daughter, Patricia L. Hinkle and her companion, John Deaver, of White Sulphur Springs; a brother, George Bundy of French Lick; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Born Oct. 25, 1928, in Birch River, Nicholas County, he was the son of the late Wesley E. and Minnie Butcher Harper. The Rev. Harper was a 38-year resident of McRoss, a member of Highland First Church of God, Rainelle, and a retired minister and coal miner. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Keener; and two brothers, Ellis and Guy Harper. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Hoover Harper; two daughters, Cloe Ann Caldwell of Proctorville, Ohio, and Alice Smith of Charmco; three sons, Daniel Harper of Danese, Bobby Harper of Washington and Terry Harper of Desota, Kan.; two sisters, Bernadine Lewis of Rocky Point, N.C., and Reva Frame of Birch River; three brothers, Ernest Harper of Berea, Ky., Ronald Harper of Massillon, Ohio, and Leonard Harper of Canton, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Junk FAIRFIELD, Ohio - Elizabeth Williams Junk, 78, formerly of Beckley, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, in a Fairfield hospital following a short illness. Born Jan. 2, 1921, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Iva Cook Williams of Reservoir Road, Beckley, and the late Leslie "Jack" Hubert Williams. Mrs. Junk spent her childhood in Beckley and was a 1938 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and had been a resident of Cincinnati since 1953. She was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie H. Williams Jr.; and a niece, Nancy Zacher. Other survivors include a son, Robert Leslie "Mike" Junk and his wife, Paula, of Birmingham, Ala.; three grandchildren, Bobby Junk and and his wife, Dawn, of Joplin, Mo., Michelle Junk Underwood and her husband, Brent, of Dallas and Mark Junk and his wife, Charisse, of Cincinnati; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Cami, Addison, Elizabeth and Cole; a sister-in-law, Marie Williams of Morgantown; two nieces, Suzanne Williams and Janet Antonini; a nephew, Clinton Williams; and numerous cousins. Mullins, formerly of Twin Branch, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Windsor Nursing Home, South Yarmouth, following a long illness. Born at Twin Branch, he was the son of the late Everett and Mary Mullins of Beckley. Mr. Mullins was a graduate of Welch High School and Northeastern University in Boston. He began a 45-year career with General Electric Co. in Lynn, Mass., in 1935. During his career he held a number of different engineering positions. In 1957, he was assigned to the Value Engineering Group in Schnectady, N.Y., which was followed by a 12-year assignment with the Jet Propulsion Group in Cincinnati. In 1977, he returned to Lynn, where he retired in 1980. In 1981, he moved to South Yarmouth, where he was active in the Mid-Cape Men's Club, Elfun Club and Bass River Golf Club. He enjoyed many volunteer and community activities. He prided himself on his green thumb and enjoyed gardening and landscaping. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband and father and as a loyal friend who always put the needs of others before his own. Survivors include his wife, Jean A. Russell Mullins; two sons, David A. Mullins of Cincinnati and Ronald A. Mullins of San Diego; five brothers, Carl Mullins of Lenoir, N.C., Gaylord, William and Robert Mullins, all of Beckley, and Howard Mullins of the Washington, D.C., area; four sisters, Helen Bass and Sally Crabtree, both of Beckley, Juanita Sims of Green Cove, Fla., and Ann Rayle of Greensboro, N.C.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Chandler Gray Cemetery, West Yarmouth, to be followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, Harwich, Mass.
