Register Herald Obituaries for May 1, 1999 Donald T. Barr Donald T. Barr, 65, of Sophia, died Thursday, April 29, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 16, 1934, in Woodbay, he was the son of the late Arthur and Louise Rutherford Barr. Mr. Barr was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He was also a lifelong resident of Sophia and a member of the VFW Post No. 4326 at Midway. He was a former President of the Sophia Babe Ruth Baseball League, having coached and been active in the league for 25 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Barr. Survivors include his wife of 35 years Lillian June Richardson Barr; two daughters, Debbie Barr of Sophia and Susie Barr of Midway; one brother, Danny Barr of Sophia; four sisters, Wilma Whittaker and Patty Johnson both of Sophia, Regina Adams of Crab Orchard, and Connie Cadle of Ravenswood; one granddaughter, Katelyn; brother in law, Larry Richardson of Lexington, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Holder officiating. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Beckley. Virginia "Jenny" Bolen Virginia Alice "Jenny" Bolen, 59, of Josephine, died Thursday, April 29, 1999 in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born August 7, 1939, in Josephine, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Waldon and Ida Florence Thompson Cole. Mrs. Bolen was a lifelong resident of Josephine, a member of the Walker Town Church of God and a former employee of Beckley Manufacturing. She was preceded in death by a sister Alma June. Survivors include her husband of 32 years Orlen Edward "Ed" Bolen; a daughter, Leisha Lewis and her husband Phil of Odd; four sisters, Janet Sanders of Spotsylvania, Va., Easter Johnston and her husband Robert of Odd, Margaret Mills and her husband Elmer of Shady Spring and Mettie Blankenship and her husband Eddie of Coal City; five brothers, John Cole and his wife Donna of Lugoff, S.C., Hershel Cole of Johnson City, Tenn., Charles Cole and his wife Drema of Ghent, Alan Cole and his wife Donna of Lugoff, S.C. and Larry Cole and his wife Becky of Lugoff, S.C. and by her step-mother Gladys Cole of Josephine. Beulah Feazell Beulah Zelma Dodson Feazell, 100, of Whiting N.J. and formerly of Peters Drive, Beckley and Glen White, died Thursday, April 29, 1999 at her daughters home following a long illness. Born July 16, 1898, in Henry County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John A. and Susie E. Wray Walker. Mrs. Feazell was the oldest of 10 children spending her childhood in Henry County, Va. She settled in Raleigh County in 1926, living at Glen White for 19 years and later lived on Peters Drive, and has been a resident of N.J. since 1990. She was a member of the Town Creek primitive Baptist Church, Town Creek, Va., and the Mt. Tabor Freewill Baptist Church in Beckley. She was an avid seamstress and quilter. She was preceded in death by two husbands, John Dodson and Sam William Feazell and a son John Everett Dodson. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Valentino of Whiting, N.J. and her husband John Morello Varcadipane and Bonita Gertrude Feazell of Monticello, N.Y.; a daughter in law, Jewell Dodson of Bassett, Va.; five grandchildren, Paul and his wife Katie Dodson of Bassett, Va., Jesse and his wife Betty Dodson of Stuart, Va., Carl and his wife Wilma Dodson of Bassett, Va., Selma and her husband John Dudley of Glade Creek, Va., and Brenda and her husband Clark Simpkins of Floyd, Va.; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two sisters ,Clara Clingen Peel of Roanoke, Va., and Irene Hylton of Bassett, Va.; a sister-in-law Octavia Cramer of Roanoke, Va. Wilma Maxine Fox Wilma Maxine Fox, 70, of Meadow Bridge, died Thursday, April 29, 1999 at a Fairlea medical center following a long illness. Born March 12, 1929, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Burks Blagg. She had been a lifelong resident of Meadow Bridge, a member of the Meadow Bridge Missionary Baptist Church, and a cook for the Meadow Bridge School System for 23 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Stewart Fox, who died in Dec. 1997, one sister, Mae Blagg, two brothers, James Blagg and Lee Blagg. Survivors include one daughter, June Efaw of Newton Falls, Ohio; one sister, Juanita Self of Louisville, Ky.; four half-sisters, Betty Stump and Kay Hunter of Rainelle, Connie Garten of Danese and Kendall Lane of N.C.; one brother, Hubert Blagg of Russellville; three half-brothers, William Blagg, Jr. of Danese, Carl Blagg of N.C. and Dennis of Va.; two grandchildren, Myrna Young and Joseph Efaw; two great grandchildren, Jasper Efaw and Brittany Young. Born April 5, 1915, at Valley Grove. Mrs. Lipps moved to central Florida in 1967. She was of Protestant Faith and a homemaker. Survivors include her husband Robert Lipps of Ocoee, Fla., formerly of Lewisburg; four sons, Billy Everhart of Tenn., Donnie Everhart of Glenburney, Md., Butch Everhart of Witchataw, Kan., and Joe Everhart of Waynesboro, Va.; two daughters, Kitty Monk of Winchester, Va. and Linda Everhart of Winchester, Va.; eighteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Settle Mary Gertrude McLaughlin Settle, 81, of Rupert, formerly of Layland and Rainelle, died Thursday, April 29, 1999 in a Ronceverte nursing home following a long illness. Born June 18, 1917, at Meadow Bluff, she was the daughter of the late Boliver Monroe and Sadie Bryant Jones. Mrs. Settle was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Settle, one daughter, Madeline V. Livingston in 1965, and one son, Junior McLaughlin in 1998. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Lou Wyatt of Baltimore, Md.; one granddaughter whom she raised, Debra Livingston Davis of Crawley; one grandson whom she raised, David Livingston of Rupert; one brother, Oliver Raymond Jones of Calif.; one sister, Edith Butler of Meadow Bluff; six grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
