Register Herald Obituaries for May 5, 1999 Ella L. Daniels CORINNE -Ella Louise Burgess Daniels, 64, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at her home following a long illness. Born March 6, 1935, at Nolan, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Miller and Lucy Hensley Miller. Mrs. Daniels was a member of Good Shepherd Independent Church. She was a mother for 49 years and enjoyed her family. She was well known as a cook and waitress in Wyoming County over the past 35 years, having last worked for Bud and Henry's in Mullens for 20 years. She was preceded in death by a brother, Irvin Miller; and a grandson, Kenneth Burgess Jr. Survivors include four daughters, Wanda McKinney of Corinne, Patricia Berry and her husband, Ed, of North Olmstead, Ohio, Phyllis Lane and her husband, Estel, of New Richmond and Brenda Edwards and her husband, Teddy, of Johnson City, Tenn.; two sons, William Vernon "Billy" Burgess of Corinne and Kenneth Ray Burgess and his wife, Sandra, of Pineville; a brother, Charles Miller and his wife, Doreen, of Pineville; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens, with the Revs. Mickey Mitchell and Gary Blankenship officiating. Dobbins, 78, of Southside, died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a two and a half week illness. Born Oct. 15, 1920, in Summers County, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Bowles and Edith Millicent Ward Bowles Frazier. Mrs. Dobbins lived in Hinton all of her life. She retired LPN from the old Hinton Hospital following 20 years of service. She was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church, Hinton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Dobbins; her stepfather, Edward "Dan" Frazier; a brother, Wendell Bowles; and two sisters, Macie C. Lilly and Anna Sue Day. Survivors include a daughter, Drema Kay Dobbins of Hinton; two sisters, Jenny Lee Ellison and her husband, Arlie, of Nimitz and Nellie Jo Mason of Hinton; and several nieces and nephews. Ruth Ray Jernigan ROCK HILL, S.C. - Ruth Ray Jernigan, 83, of 1915 Ebenezer Road, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, in a Rock Hill care center. She was the daughter of the late George Henry and Margaret Roland Ray. Mrs. Jernigan was a native of Buncombe County, N.C., and a member of Oakland Baptist Church, Rock Hill. She was a graduate of Concord College at Athens, member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and she taught public education at Park Junior High School, Stratton High School and Shady Spring High School. Survivors include two sons, Howard M. Jernigan of Memphis, Tenn., and Thomas Jernigan of Southbridge, Mass.; two daughters, Carol J. Berger of Cary, N.C., and Leslie J. Cooper of Rock Hill; six grandchildren, Dr. Paula Gordon, Jason Berger, Katelyn Jernigan, Maggie Cooper, Liza Cooper and Bryan Jernigan. John Myers Jr. KINCAID -John Myers Jr., 63, formerly of Cleveland, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born July 14, 1935, in Huntington, he was the son of the late John Myers Sr. and Irene Ross Myers. Mr. Myers was a retired hammer driver for Park Ohio, Cleveland. He was a member of Robson Freewill Baptist Church and the White Oak Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society, Oak Hill. He was a U.S. Army veteran and belonged to a U.S. Army Reserve unit in Parma, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a sister, Velma; his father-in-law, Roy Smith; and a brother-in-law, Shem Adkins. Survivors include his wife, Mary Smith Myers; two daughters, Kathy Brown and her husband, John, of North Ridgeville, Ohio, and Teresa Salsgiver and her husband, James, of Cleveland; three sons, Jimmy Myers and his wife, Kimberly, of Lakewood, Ohio, Douglas Myers of Oak Hill and Charles Myers and his wife, Brenda, of Walland, Tenn.; two sisters, Eloise Miller and her husband, Verlin, of Moncks Corner, S.C., and Kathryn Adkins of Lincolnton, N.C.; a brother, Leo Myers of Lavelett; five grandchildren, Mary Sue, Patrick, Michael, Ryan and Nathan; seven stepgrandchildren; his mother-in-law, Helen Smith of Kincaid; and several nieces and nephews. Russell STICKNEY -John Howard Russell, 79, died Monday, May 3, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born Dec. 24, 1919, at Streeter, he was the son of the late Overton H. and Bessie May Bennett Russell. Mr. Russell was a retired miner with Armco Inc. and a member of UMWA Local 6608, Montcoal. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He attended Stickney Community Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was preceded in death by his first wife Maxine E. Fox Russell; five sisters, Hezzie Crawford, Nancy Catherine Richmond, Norma Bennett, Nadine Coleman and Icye Capuano; two brothers, William and Hobert Rusell; and several infant brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Merlie Bailey James Russell; two daughters, Mrs. Kent (Shelia A.) Bailey of Beckley and Mrs. Doug (Sandra J.) Drumheller of Fisherville, Va.; three sons, Roger L. and his wife, Pauline, of Charleston, the Rev. Born Aug. 29, 1918, in Putnam, Va., he was the son of the late Cyril A. and Alice Mulkey Toner. Mr. Toner was retired president and general manager of Toner Construction Co. He was a member of First Christian Church and had been a resident of Raleigh County most of his life. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret C. Vandal; a brother, Kenneth Toner; and a nephew whom he raised, Kenneth A. Vandal. Survivors include his wife, Edith Williams Toner; a nephew, Basil A. Vandal Jr.; and two nieces, Mrs. Walter (Kay) Peelish and Mrs. George (Sharon) Senopole. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. James D.
