Conner PRINCETON - Sylvia Madeline Conner, 68, of 100 Raleigh St., went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, May 5, 1999, after a long illness. Born March 27, 1931, at Gilliam, she was the daughter of the late Leonard William and Fanny Florence Walk Alley. Mrs. Conner was affiliated with the Baptist faith, was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and making crafts. She was a longtime resident of Covel, Wyoming County, before moving to Mercer County. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Gilbert and Molly Taylor. Survivors include her former husband, Lenard Conner; two daughters, Sharon Discepolo and her husband, Carl, of Enfield, Conn., and Rebecca Bobbie and her husband, Dave, of Shelton, Conn.; two sons, Russell Conner of Spanishburg and Jackie Conner and his wife, Gail, of Princeton; three sisters, Virginia Robinson of Louisville, Texas, Ruth Parsell and her husband, Curtis, of Beckley and Maxine Grose and her husband, Roy, of Keystone Heights, Fla.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sweet Home Baptist Church, Willowbrook Road, Princeton, with Elders Thurman Belcher and Cecil Belcher officiating. Box 211, Lester, was dead on arrival Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Feb. 5, 1911, in Tashia, Va., she was the daughter of the late Willie Hall and Minnie Fuller Hall. Mrs. Corpening was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Lester, where she was president of the Missionary Society and a member of the Deaconess Board. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel I. Corpening, in 1979; one brother; and one sister. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Charlette Wilson of Detroit; a special friend, John Morehead of Lester; a sister, Josie Lane and her husband, the Rev. John Lane, of Oxon Hill, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Louise Lash and Ruth Henry, both of Lester; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Services will be noon today at First Baptist Church of Lester with the Revs. Billy Galloway, Nelson Staples Jr. and Walter Leach and Elder Fred T. Simms officiating. Mary Giompalo Mary Giompalo, 80, of 107 Edwards St., Beckley, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Dec. 18, 1918, in War, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Kish Cook. Mrs. Giompalo owned and operated, along with her husband, the former Giompalo Butcher Shop. She was formerly employed by Purity Maid Bakery. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post No. 4326 and Beckley Moose Lodge No. 1606. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Giompalo, in 1984. Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Kopcha of Beckley; a brother, Johnny Cook of Radcliff; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral liturgy will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Maria Asir as the celebrant. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Born July 25, 1924, in Justice, he was the son of the late Robert and Dellie Cline Justice. Mr. Justice was a retired coal miner, a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and a member of North Spring Independent Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Madge Harris Justice; a daughter, Elizabeth ³Beth² Thompson of Gilbert; two sons, Gordon Jusatice of North Spring and Gary Justice of Justice; a brother, Clarence Justice of Hanover; and four grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at North Spring Independent Baptist Church with the Revs. Jackie Lester, Sherwood Queen and Jim Nagy officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery, Justice. Kincaid BUCKHANNON - James Daniel Kincaid, 83, formerly of Kincaid and Chicago, died Friday, May 7, 1999, in a Buckhannon hospital following a short illness. Born Dec. 9, 1915, in Kincaid, he was the son of the late Phillip and Katie Arrington Kincaid. Mr. Kincaid was a retired machinist for J.J. Tourek in Chicago and a member of the AFL-CIO in Chicago. Survivors include two sons, Robert J . Kincaid of Buckhannon and Daniel Phillip Kincaid of Mobile, Ala.; two daughters, Connie Connon of Deltona, Fla., and Linda Files of Detroit; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Betty Lusk officiating. The body will be cremated following the services. Interment will follow in Kincaid Cemetery. Born Feb. 5, 1923, in Comfort, she was the daughter of the late William Cleveland and Belva Brown Mays. Mrs. Ratcliff had been a resident of Hinton for the past 26 years and had lived most of her life in Fayette County. She was a charter member of Hinton Church of God and was a retired employee of the Summers County Board of Education, where she worked as a cook at Riverview and Hinton Area elementary schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ratcliff; four brothers, Lionel Lee, Cecil, Estel and Joshua Mays; and a sister, Annie Mays Painter. Survivors include a son, Franklin Delano Farrell and his wife, Ann, of Nimitz; five grandchildren, Rebecca Farrell Pack and her husband, Cletis, of Hinton, Franklin Farrell Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Oak Hill, Gregory Farrell and his wife, Cyndi, of Crab Orchard, Jacqueline Farrell Steele of Charlotte, N.C., and Scott Farrell, with the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, Calif.; six great-grandchildren, Susan and Alan Pack, Weston Toney, Brittany and Samantha Farrell, and Morgan Farrell. Born March 20, 1905, at Mount View, she was the daughter of the late William Lewis Basham and Rebecca Lilly Basham. Mrs. Stanley was a homemaker and a member of Primitive Baptist Church. She had been a resident of Jumping Branch for 10 years and was a lifelong resident of Summers County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Stanley; two brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include two sons, James Freddie Stanley of Hinton and Roy Dolphus Stanley and his wife, Donna, of Huntington; a daughter, Rose Conner of Jumping Branch; a brother, Mack Basham of Cool Ridge; two sisters, Zanzie Cole of Mount View and Elizabeth Lester of Daniels; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Thomas was a self-employed contractor and a member of Free Will Baptist Church, Huntington. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Brewer Thomas; a daughter, Joyce Thomas Dudding of Pembroke, Va.; three stepdaughters, Donetta Shrum and her husband, Robbie, Loretta Koch and Tammy White and her husband, Matt; a brother, Joe Thomas of Peterstown; a sister, Annie Pearl Smith of Lindside; a granddaughter, Candra C.
