Register Herald Obituaries for May 13, 1999 Norvin L. Bowyer MORGANTOWN - Norvin L. Bowyer, 76, formerly of Ballengee, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at the home of his daughter in San Marcos, Calif., following a short illness. Born June 16, 1922, at Ballengee, he was the son of the late Earl C. Bowyer and Ibra Virginia Meadows Bowyer Hedrick. Professor Bowyer retired with 32 years of service from the West Virginia University Extension Service, Morgantown. He was a 1940 graduate of Talcott High School and received his bacheloršs and masteršs degrees from West Virginia University, Morgantown. He continued his graduate studies at the University of Arizona at Tucson and post-graduate studies at Syracuse University. He was of the Methodist faith, a member of the Harrisburg Shrine,and a member of Talcott Masonic Lodge No. 100 AF and AM. Mr. Bowyer was a World War II veteran, having served as a staff sergeant, Company F, 253rd Infantry Regiment, U.S. Army, and been the recipient of the Purple Heart and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, William D. Hedrick, who raised him from the age of 6; and a sister, Mrs. Harry (Kathryn G. Hedrick) Coiner, on Feb. 25, 1999. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ruth Hurst Bowyer; two sons, David Earl Bowyer of Salem and Dennis Lee Bowyer of Long Beach, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Beverly Bowyer) Dozier of San Marcos, Dr. Norma Kay Bowyer of Morgantown and Mrs. Richard (Carolyn Dee Bowyer) Ferrell of Charleston; a brother, Preston J. Hedrick of Pence Springs; two sisters, Mrs. Lee (Willie Mae Bowyer) Perkins of Clemmons, N.C., and Mrs. Eugene (Helen G. Hedrick) Atkins of Talcott; an uncle, John Herman Meadows of Hinton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Ballengee, with the Rev. Patricia Weed officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Ballengee. A reception will follow at the church for everyone in attendance, with food and fellowship as requested by the deceased. Arrangements by Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson. Bennie Hylton Bennie Hylton, 48, of Crab Orchard, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born in Iaeger, he was the son of the late Julius and Effie Wimmer Hylton, both West Virginia residents. Mr. Hylton had made his home in Crab Orchard for the past 20 years and was a diesel mechanic for Lewis Terminal Garage in Beckley for 22 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Acie Wayne Hylton Sr.; and his maternal grandfather, Jim Wimmer. Survivors include two sons, Bennie Ray Hylton of Coal City and David Hylton of the home; two sisters, Hilda Treadway of Beckley and Wilda Roark of Coal City; three brothers, James Hylton of Shady Spring, Winford Hylton of Crab Orchard and Billy Hylton of Charleston, S.C.; his maternal grandmother, Sarah Wimmer of Pea Patch, Va.; and a granddaughter, Ashton Hylton. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel, 1401 Second St., Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Doyle Cooper and Elder Herbert Sweet Jr. officiating. Kanode ZENITH - Robert Lee Kanode, 47, died Monday, May 10, 1999, near Union. Born July 24, 1951, at Rock Camp, he was the son of the late Kathleen Cole Kanode. Mr. Kanode was an employee of the West Virginia Department of Transportation at Union as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union No. 132 of Beckley and the State Employees Union. Survivors include his wife, Linda C. Kanode; a son, Ramey Lee Kanode and his wife, Paula, and a daughter, Robin Dillion and her husband, Eric, all of Lindside; his father, Dall "Junior" Kanode and stepmother, Willa G., of Zenith; a brother, Johnny Dale Kanode of Zenith; a sister, Kathy Frazier and her husband, Earl, of Bozoo; two stepbrothers, Bobby Gene Cole of Zenith and Brian Cole of Union; two stepsisters, Betty Bindas of Salem, Va., and Melanie Tingler of Zenith; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Boots and Jean Martin of Zenith; a sister-in-law, Ann Eickhoff and her husband, Darrell, of Belleville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Dropping Lick United Methodist Church Cemetery, Dropping Lick. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Milam Clara Eveline Milam, 80, of Prosperity, died Monday, May 11, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born April 3, 1919, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Deatie Treadway Arthur. Mrs. Milam was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Milam; a son, Sgt. Dale Milam; a brother, Fred Arthur; and a sister, Inez Massey. Survivors include six sons, Gary Milam and his wife, Joan, of Lampasas, Texas, Larry Milam and his wife, Lisa, of Columbia, S.C., Jimmy Milam and his wife, Patty, of Seminole, Fla., Robert Milam and his wife, Maggie, of Tacoma, Wash., Randall Milam and his wife, Regina, of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Harold Milam and his wife, Linda, of Prosperity; a daughter, Linda Sjurset and her husband, Lawrence, of Vale, N.C.; a brother, Robert Arthur of West Milford; three sisters, Mildred Milam of Prosperity, Irma Arthur of Clarksburg and Alice Ballard of Grandview; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
