Register Herald Obituaries for May 14, 1999 Edith A. Hale Edith Alice Tolbert Hale, 77, of Beckley, formerly of Cunard, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born May 15, 1921, at Gatewood, she was the daughter of the late Ervin W. and Nannie L. Sowers Tolbert. Mrs. Hale was a retired store clerk at Kroger and manager of Dollar General Store and DOT Discount, she was a member of the Cunard Baptist Church, a volunteer for American Red Cross, Beckley Chapter, and Merchants Association in Oak Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis R. Hale. Survivors include a son, Curtis R. Hale Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Jo Thompson of Beckley and three grandchildren, Ross H. Thompson II of Beckley, Jimmy Hale of Atlanata, Ga., and Matthew Hale of Atlanta, Ga. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Herron Margaret Constance Herron, 72, of Glen Daniel, went to be with our Lord, Wednesday, May 12, 1999, following a short illness. Born Feb. 8, 1927, in Ravencliff, she was the daughter of the late Hugo and Evelyn W. Schuman. Mrs. Herron retired from Maple Meadow Mining after 22 years of service. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene D. "Buddy" Schuman. Belva 'Abe' Metheney NIMITZ - Belva Ann "Abe" McKinney Hatcher Metheney, 83, died 6:40 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 1999, in a Nimitz care home following a long illness. Born July 12, 1917, at Ellison Ridge in Summers County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. McKinney and Melinda Birchfield McKinney. Mrs. Metheney was a member of the Sunday Road Baptist Church, and had lived at Nimitz for the past five years, having lived most of her life in the Ansted area. She was retired supervisor of housekeeping at Hawks Nest State Park. She was preceded in death by her first husband, David C. Hatcher; her second husband, Friend Metheney; a son, Charles L. Hatcher; five brothers, Burl, Ray, Allen, Norval and Everette McKinney; and two sisters, Donnie Rakes and Bonnie McKinney. Minnick LEXINGTON, Ky. - Patty Farley Minnick, 64, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at her home. A native of Coal City, she was the daughter of the late George D. and Lessie Canady Farley. Plumley Thomas Franklin Plumley, 70, of 528 Orchard Ave., Beckley, died 8 a.m., Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born Feb. 24, 1929, at Sprague, he was the son of the late Fred H. Plumley and Bessie Mae Berry Plumley. Mr. Plumley was a U.S. Army veteran with 20 years of service. He served in the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion and the Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Randall Plumley; and a sister, Nina Lilly. Survivors include his wife of 491Ž2 years, Easter "Marie" Callaway Plumley; four sons, Carl W. Plumley of Grandview, Richard L. Plumley of Beckley, Michael T. Plumley and his wife, Vicki, of Beckley, and David B. Born Sept. 20, 1944, at McGraws, she was the daughter of Sylvia Duncan Bailey of Sabine and the late Wilson Bailey. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Wyoming and Raleigh counties and was of the Protestant faith. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carlos "Pip" Bailey. Other survivors include three daughters, Sherry Phillips of Cross Lanes, Ginna Smith of Beckley, and Melinda Roberts of Bolt; a son, Buddy Allen of Canvas; four brothers, Estel Duncan, Cecil Bailey, and Glenn Bailey, all of Cleveland, and Larry Bailey of Sabine; two sisters, Carol Bailey and Cindy Woodson, both of Sabine; six grandchildren, Tanya Atwood, Kristy Smith, Kendra Smith, Tabatha Allen, Courtney Allen, and Jeffrey Wayne Allen; and one great-grandson, Michael Atwood.
