Born June 2, 1928, at Backus Mountain, he was the son of the late Clyde William and Nellie Mae Pugh Adkins. Mr. Adkins had been a resident of Daniels for the past seven years, was of the Baptist faith, and retired from Belmont Steel in Franklin Park, Ill. Bailey Sr. DAVIN - Ernest Coleman Bailey Sr., 54, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born Feb. 18, 1945, at Cyclone, he was the son of the late Wilburn Bailey Sr. and Ruth Cook Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a coal miner working for D&K Coal in Summersville. He attended the Summersville Church of God and the Campus Church of God. He was a 1963 graduate of Oceana High School and had been a resident of Summersville for the past six years. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Grace Morgan Bailey; a daughter, Deborah Workman and her husband, David, of Mudfork; four sons, Ernest C. Basham, 82, died 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in a Princeton hospital following a long illness. Born May 9, 1917, at Hinton, he was the son of the late Lindsay and Ocie Nabors Basham. Mr. Basham was a retired U.S. Postal worker in Hinton and a U.S. Army veteran during World War II. He attended the Riverview Chapel in Hinton and was a former member of the VFW Post No. 4500 in Hinton, Hinton Moose Lodge and Hinton Elks Lodge. He had lived all his life in Summers County. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene Basham McPeake; a son, Gerald Basham; a stepson, Dwayne Vest; a stepgrandson, Woody Ball; and two sisters, Dorothy Bryant and Lillian Jackson. Arrangements by Pivont Funeral Home, Hinton. ---------- Kenneth Facello Sr. BALTIMORE - Kenneth Gale "Ken" Facello Sr., 49, formerly of Maple Fork, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore, following a long illness. Born Jan. 14, 1950, at Maple Fork, he was the son of the late James and Goldie Lovelace Facello. Mr. Facello was the minister of music at the Christian House of Prayer for 15 years, and was associate minister of Trinity Temple and Eastern Assembly of God. Ken and his wife attended the Gospel Tabernacle of Baltimore and participated as part of the staff of the Bible Institute. During this time he shared ministry at the Dundalk Tabernacle and had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Mexico. He was a graduate of Zion Bible Institute in Providence, R.I. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Facello of Prosperity and Ronald L. Facello of Baltimore, Md. Survivors include his wife, Diane Beaver Facello; two children, Kenneth G. Facello Jr. and Kari Renae Facello, both of Baltimore; two sisters, Phyllis Jean Kinder of Norfolk, Va., and Joann Mira of Oak Hill; seven brothers, Henry Facello of Pontiac, Mich., Frank and Wayne Facello, both of Maple Fork, and Charles, Bob, Johnny and Roger Facello, all of Baltimore. Born Sept. 22, 1920, at Jumping Branch, he was the son of the late Kelly P. and Victoria Mae Fitzpatrick. Mr. Fitzpatrick had lived most of his life in Summers County. He was a 16-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, having served on the USS Ozark in Tokyo Bay in 1945. Survivors include five nieces, Linda Shaw of Paintsville, Ky., Rebecca F. UNION - Melvin P. Graffam, D.O., 85, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in a Ronceverte nursing home following an extended illness. Mr. Graffam practiced several years in Union, was a member of the St. Johns Methodist Church at Salt Sulphur Springs, and was a 50-year member of the Kirksville, Mo., Lodge No. 105 AF and AM. Hatfield, 67, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born April 6, 1932, at Baileysville, she was the daughter of the late D.K. Shields and Ruby Blank-enship Shields Taylor. Mrs. Hatfield was a 42-year resident of Itmann, was employed by the Wyoming County Board of Education as a cook at the Itmann Grade School, was an avid bingo player and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was active in the Wyoming County Senior Citizens Center and a member of the Itmann Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hatfield, in August 1981. She was a former employee of Rite-Aid in Pineville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil L. Hendrick; two brothers, Fred and Frazier Cordle; and an infant son, Cecil L. Born Oct. 23, 1946, at Princeton, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Minnie Louise Mann Johnson. Ms. Johnson was a member of the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church, had completed the Valley Training College in Princeton, and was a member of several family and children's rights programs. She was preceded in death by a brother, Everette Johnson. Survivors include three brothers, Wayne and Maury Johnson, both of Greenville, and David Johnson and his wife, Cathy, of Union; maternal grandmother, Anna Mae Mann of Peterstown; nieces, Michelle, Kristen and Ashley Johnson; and nephews, E.J., Kelly, Ben and Taylor Johnson. Born July 29, 1908, in Boissevain, Va., he was the son of the late John O. and Mary Overton Smith. Mr. Smith was a general manager of Black Eagle Smokeless Coal Co. at Black Eagle and had worked for Mine Safety Supplies, where he covered several counties for the company, selling their products to coal mining companies. He left mine safety to become general manager of Belmead Coal Co. at Sabine. He was also manager for Ravencliff Gas Co. in Ravencliff, developing gas sites and supervising drilling new gas wells for the company. He retired from this position, due to the illness of his wife, Marie B. Smith, who preceded him in 1970. He also lost his daughter, Nancy Jo Wyatt, a short time later. Mr. Smith was a member of the Mullens United Methodist Church and the Mullens Masonic Lodge No. 151 AF and AM, where he was past master and received his 50-year membership pin. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Martin Smith of Mullens; a son, Robert N. Smith Jr. of Interlachen, Fla.; a sister, Gladys Quesenberry of Beckley; a brother, John O. Smith of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Brent Brown officiating.
