Born in Whipple, she was the daughter of the late Ronald Smith Sr. and Glenna Godbey Smith. Mrs. Duncan was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Boyer and her husband, Dean, of Columbus; four grandchildren Ashley, Joseph, Benjamin and Emiley, all of Columbus; four sisters, Darlene Pruden of Norfolk, Va., Betty Smith and Libby Smith, both of Oak Hill, and Rohnette Smith of Greenville, S.C.; four brothers, Ronald Smith Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, and Darrell Smith and his wife, Nettie, all of Columbus, and Gene Smith and wife, Sue, and Billy Smith, all of Oak Hill. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Bill Menefee officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Arrangements by Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill. ---------- Lewis Aaron Friar ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Lewis Aaron Friar, 70, formerly of Rainelle, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, in an Arlington, Va., hospital following a short illness. Born Jan. 27, 1929, at Clincho, Va., he was the son of the late Cora Jackson and Sherman S. Friar. Mr. Friar was a retired English teacher at Swanson Junior High School and a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Joyce Evans Friar, in March 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Leesa Woodard and her husband, Bob, of Fairfax City, Va.; a sister, Mary Sue Newton of Slocomb, Ala.; two brothers, Rudolph Friar of Moneta (Smith Mountain Lake), Va., and Robert Friar of Dothan, Ala.; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Karel and Bonnie Evans of Rainelle. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and relatives who loved him. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Clintonville. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum. Friends may call one hour before services at the chapel. Born July 19, 1924, in Calloway, he was the son of the late Thomas Carl Holt and Sadie Moss Holt Kennedy. Mr. Holt was a retired mine electrician, a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and a member of VFW Post 3110 in Oak Hill. Holt was preceded in death by his wife, June G. Holt. Survivors include a daughter, Rita Kay Jeffries of Hilltop; a son, Eddie Holt and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Route 1, Fayetteville; two stepsons, Eugene R. Weaver Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Oak Hill and Ronald Weaver and his wife, Carolyn, of Fayetteville; five grandchildren Kim and Tara Holt, Shawn Toney, and Eugene Weaver III, David Weaver and Michelle D. Weaver; a great-grandchild, Heather Toney; a sister, Louise Young of Oak Hill; and two brothers, Charles Holt of Cleveland and Gene Holt of Beckley. Graveside rites will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Bill Menefee officiating. There will be no visitation. VFW Post 3110 will provide military honors. Born June 18, 1940, in Daniels, she was the daughter of the late Harry Fred and Flora Bailey. Mrs. Redden was a homemaker and a former employee of Beckley Manufacturing. She was a member of Tilden Community Church and a White Oak resident since 1972. Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Daniel Laverne Redden; five brothers, Harry Fred Bailey Jr. and his wife, Maxine, of Advance, N.C., William E. Bailey and his wife, Betty, of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Franklin D. Bailey and his wife, Joy, of Oak Hill, Hubert David Bailey and his wife, Juanita, of Maryland, and Robert L. Bailey and his wife, Alona, of Lewisville, N.C.; two sisters, Marjorie Cozart of Fairdale and Emogene Lilly of North Ridgeville; and 18 nieces and nephews. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with Pastor Edward Garten officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Williams DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Cecil G. Williams, 88, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, in a Daytona Beach hospital after a long illness. Born Sept. 6, 1911, at Morris Creek, he was the son of the late George and Leotia Phipps Williams. Mr. Williams was a retired coal miner, having worked for several coal companies including New River Coal Co. in Stanaford. He was a member of UMWA District 29 and Daytona Beach Christian Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Williams and Sherman Williams; and a sister, Gladys Ritter. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Barrett Williams; four sons: Dallas Williams of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Carmen Williams of Davy, Fla., Larry Williams of Siler City, N.C., and Roger Williams of Akron, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Edward Garten officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Born Feb. 26, 1936, in Artie, he was the son of the late Dock Williams and Bessie Jarrell Williams. Mr. Williams was a construction lineman and a member of Free Pentecostal Church of God. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Myrtle Stover, Sylvia Eller, Annalee Williams and Emma Jean Williams. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Seaman Williams, three sons, Kenny Williams of Cleveland, Darrell Scott Williams and his wife, Erica, of Colcord and John Michael Williams at home; two daughters, Vernona Carroll Williams and her husband, Mitchell, of Raleigh and Donna Price and her husband, William, of Whitesville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Whitten Williams and his wife, Nancy, of Gainsville, Texas, Ralph Williams and his wife, Debbie, of Dorothy and Roe Williams of Deerfield, N.J.; and four sisters, Margie Stover of Clear Creek, Wanda Butler and her husband, Willliam, of Colcord, Nellie Williams of Artie, and Farris Bailey and her husband, Teddy, of Whitesville.
