Register Herald Obituaries for November 29, 1999 William D. Holliday Sr. William David "Dee" Holliday Sr., of North Lilly Drive in Maxwell Hill, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 30, 1925, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Walter and Irene Sarver Holliday. A lifelong resident of Beckley, Mr. Holliday was the founder of Beckley Welding and Supply, Inc. The company was founded Oct. 10, 1951. Mr. Holliday had also established a branch division in Logan since 1976. A faithful member of the Memorial Baptist Church since 1971, he dedicated his life to helping others in business and civic activities. He sponsored religious services for Memorial Baptist Church, the Rev. Jim Franklin and Skelton Freewill Baptist Church. He was also active in other religious and charitable organizations. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Phelps Holliday. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Weaver Holliday; a son, W.D. "Dave" Holliday Jr.; two daughters, Delores Jean Holliday Haines and her husband, Robert, and Diann Ellen Holliday Srednicki and her husband, Edward, all of Beckley; eight grandchildren, W.D. Holliday III, Robert Haines Jr., Shawn Haines, Teresa Holliday, Greg Holliday, Michelle Phillips, Dee Dee Holliday, and Candi Holliday; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harry Lee Sarver of Oklahoma. Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Melton Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Pallbearers will be W.D. "Dave" Holliday Jr., W.D. Holliday III, W.D. Holliday IV, Robert Haines Jr., Shawn Haines, and Harry Lee Sarver. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Haines Sr. and Edward J. Srednicki. Morgan, 68, passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, after a long illness. Born Nov. 6, 1921, at Ronceverte, he was the son of the late George Lacy and Lelia Wright Morgan. Mr. Morgan was a lifelong resident of Ronceverte, a World War II veteran, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, served for 33 years as Ronceverte chief of police and was retired from the West Virginia ABC Commission. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Persinger Morgan; two sisters, Martha E. Morgan and Anna L. Morgan; and three brothers, George W. Morgan, Gordon H. Morgan and Marvin A. Morgan. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Morgan of Ronceverte; one daughter, Chris (Crystal) Nicely of Clifton Forge, Va.; one son, Marvin L. Morgan of Organ Cave; one brother, Bernard Morgan of White Sulphur Springs; and five grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ronceverte, with the Rev. Mark Flynn and the Rev. Robert McClintic officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Ronceverte. Thacker CHARLESTON – Elizabeth Burgraf Thacker, 102, of Charleston, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at the Valley Health Village in South Charleston, following a long illness. Mrs. Thacker was retired sales representative for the Fulton Fish Market in New York City, and a sales clerk and seamstress for the former Frankenberger's Clothing Store, a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, member of D.A.V. Commanders Club and Auxiliary of Charleston, and the Women's Aglow Club. She was born in Fush, Ky. Survivors include two children, Joseph Allen Thacker Jr. of Wilmore, Ky., and Robert K. Thacker of Beckley; a brother, John Burgraf of Charleston; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph Allen Thacker Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, W.Va. Friends and family may call one hour prior at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the Thacker Family Scholarship, Asbury College, Wilmore, KY 40309.
