Born April 13, 1920, at Glen Ferris, she was the daughter of the late Harry B. and Celia Bibbee Clark. Mrs. Benda was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel B. Benda Sr. Survivors include two sons, Bruce Benda of Oak Hill and Daniel B. Born Dec. 14, 1931, at Herndon, he was the son of the late Estel Ford and Rosa Shrewsbury Ford. Mr. Ford was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Princeton. He worked 42 years for the Norfolk and Southern Railroad at Elmore. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Velda White Ford; a son, Milton Ford and wife, Sharolette, of Herndon; a daughter, Christol Whitt of Herndon; a sister, Louise Prince and husband, David, of Herndon; four grandchildren, Christy Goode and husband, Ernie, of Ivanhoe, Va., Angela Perkins and husband, Kenny, of Princeton, Adam Ford and wife, Christy, of Herndon, and Jessica Whitt of Herndon; and four great-grandchildren, Emily Perkins, Kenny Perkins III (Jr. Jr.), Dalton Goode and Hannah Ford. Holliday Sr. William David "Dee" Holliday Sr., of North Lilly Drive in Maxwell Hill, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 30, 1925, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Walter and Irene Sarver Holliday. A lifelong resident of Beckley, Mr. Holliday was the founder of Beckley Welding and Supply, Inc. The company was founded Oct. 10, 1951. Mr. Holliday had also established a branch division in Logan since 1976. A faithful member of the Memorial Baptist Church since 1971, he dedicated his life to helping others in business and civic activities. He sponsored religious services for Memorial Baptist Church, the Rev. Jim Franklin and Skelton Freewill Baptist Church. He was also active in other religious and charitable organizations. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Phelps Holliday. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Weaver Holliday; a son, W.D. "Dave" Holliday Jr.; two daughters, Delores Jean Holliday Haines and her husband, Robert, and Diann Ellen Holliday Srednicki and her husband, Edward, all of Beckley; eight grandchildren, W.D. Holliday III, Robert Haines Jr., Shawn Haines, Teresa Holliday, Greg Holliday, Michelle Phillips, Dee Dee Holliday, and Candi Holliday; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harry Lee Sarver of Oklahoma. A native of Omar, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Lena Barker Helton. Mrs. Howard was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Beckley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Burns Howard. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Anne McGraw and husband, Charles Dwight McGraw Sr., of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren, Laura Colleen M. Hagy, Linda A. Parr, Charles Dwight McGraw Jr. and Howard David McGraw; four great-grandchildren, Robert J. Parr III, Jacob I. Parr, Charles D. McGraw III and Clifford C. Arrangements by Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, Va. Lenore S. McPherson Lenore Stella Farley McPherson, 83, of Midway, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a sudden illness. Born Dec. 9, 1915, at Farley Hill, she was the daughter of the late Oliver O. Farley and Ethel M. Lilly Farley. Mrs. McPherson's religious belief was that of the Primitive Baptist faith. She was a resident of Midway for 74 years. She earned an associate degree in accounting from the former Beckley College, and was employed by the Raleigh County Board of Education as the finance secretary at Woodrow Wilson High School until 1971. She then worked in the business office of Rural Acres Clinic and retired as associate comptroller of Human Touch Inc. Before her retirement, she was very active in community and civic affairs having served as president of the Gulf Woman's Club. She had served since 1955 as the secretary of the Farley Reunion. She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. McPherson Sr.; two sons, William D. McPherson Jr. and Bobby R. McPherson; an infant daughter, Nancy Pat McPherson; and a sister, Belva McVey. Survivors include a brother, Samuel G. Farley and wife, Dorothy, of Mullens; a daughter-in-law, Ann McPherson of Beckley; five grandchildren, Kim Elaine Johnson and husband, Raymond, of Beckley, Michelle Rae Lester and husband, James, of Beckley, Shane McPherson, Stefanie Dawn McPherson, and Christy Renee White of Beckley; and three great-grandchildren, Pvt. "Dickie" Mignor, 85, of Flat Top, formerly of Danese, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Aug. 5, 1914, at Chestnut Knob, he was the son of the late Cyrus and Mary Sanner Mignor. Mr. Mignor was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA District 29. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laurestine Mae Berry Mignor, on Oct. 11, 1994; three sisters, Violet Bennett, Myrtle Fitzpatrick, and Sally Redden. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Meadows and her husband, Carl, of Flat Top; a son, Gene Mignor and his wife, Linda, of Long Beach, Miss.; and four grandchildren, Mark Meadows of Flat Top, Carla Meadows of Flat Top, Lt. Michelle Mignor (U.S.N.) of Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla., and Kevin Mignor of Long Beach, Miss. Born in Argo, Ky., she was the daughter of Harry L. Knight and Mary Hurley Knight. Mrs. Smith was a charter member of the Pineville Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder. In addition, she was a member of the Women's Circle of the Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a graduate of Pikeville High School in Pikeville, Ky.; Bowling Green Business College in Bowling Green, Ky.; and Radford State Teachers College in Radford, Va. She taught business courses for one year in Buchanan County, Va., and 42 years at Pineville High School. She was affiliated with numerous educational associations which include: lifetime membership of the West Virginia Education Association/National Education Association, West Virginia Education Association for Retired Personnel, and Wyoming County Association of Retired Teachers. She was inducted in the Pineville High School Hall of Fame in May 1993. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 110, where she was a past worthy matron and a member of the White Shrine. She also received her 50-year pin for the Order of Eastern Star in 1988. She was a member of the First Community Bank Board of Directors. She was the first woman to become a bank director in the state of West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Swanson Smith Sr.; two sons, William Franklin Smith and Robert Paul Smith; three brothers, Harry Hurley Knight, Robert Paul Knight and Jach Leonidas Knight; and a sister, Thelma Eileen Knight. Survivors include a son, Claude Swanson Smith Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Alexandria, Va.; two grandsons, Robert Paul Smith of Nitro, and Claude Swanson Smith III and his wife, Susie, of Winfield; a great-grandson, Claude Swanson Smith IV; two sisters, Margaret "Billie" Neal and her husband, Gene, of Pineville, and Gertrude Brock of Norfolk, Va.; a special sister-in-law, Annabelle Knight of Pineville; special friends, Bryan Russell and Betty Parker of Nitro, and Dorothy and Harry Miller of Pineville; and several nieces and nephews. Treadway Charles Howard "Scott" Treadway, 74, of Clear Creek, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born March 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Howard and Victoria Burgess Treadway. Mr. Treadway was a disabled coal miner, a member of Spruce Tabernacle, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Anita and Katherine. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Violet Maynor Treadway; a son, William C. "Bill" Treadway of Clear Creek; a daughter, Regina "Penny" Withrow and husband, Charles, of Colcord; five brothers, Delbert Treadway of Mount Hope, Lewis Treadway of Kingston, Kenneth Treadway of Artie, Doyle Treadway of Ohio, and Nick Treadway of Artie; three sisters, Lenore Mitchem of Hampton, Va., Susan Torrie of Canal Fulton, Ohio, and Ann Shadrick of North Caroline; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
