Register Herald Obituaries for October 1, 1999 Richard 'Pete' Allen Sr. KEENAN ­ Richard Lee "Pete" Allen Sr., 73, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at a Fairlea hospital following a long illness. Born Nov. 8, 1925, in Salt Sulphur Springs, he was the son of the late Ira James and Frances Fisher Allen. Mr. Allen was a retired logger and heavy equipment operator and a member of Pickaway United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Malcolm James Allen, Ira Eugene "Gene" Allen, James Gillian "Gil" Allen and Flourney "Fun" Jennings Allen; and a sister, Genevieve Wallace. Survivors include his wife, Lois Louise Young Allen; three sons, Richard Lee Allen Jr. and his wife, Sherry, of Willow Bend, Basil Young Allen and his wife, Terry, of Glen Daniel and Arnold Scott Allen and his wife, Patricia, of Union; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Debra Kay) Wilson of Union and Mrs. Billy (Mary Ann) Level of Organ Cave; a brother, Harold William "Bill" Allen of Union; a sister, Frances Allen Fullen of Salt Sulphur Springs; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Groves Funeral Home, Union, with the Rev. Bob Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Union. Bailey MEADOW CREEK ­ Louise Rebecca Gwinn Bailey, 83, died at 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at the home of Larry and Barbara Cooper following a long illness. Born May 14, 1916, in Meadow Creek, she was the daughter of the late William and Fannie Richmond Gwinn. Mrs. Bailey was a member of Sandstone Baptist Church, a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Summers County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Bailey; six brothers, Brian, Hobert, Vergil, Donnie, Clinton and Homer Gwinn; and three sisters, Phyllis Halley, Edna Sallon and Hazel Kingreey. Survivors include two sisters, Opal Morrison of Meadow Creek and Vera Cole of Georgia; special friends, Larry and Barbara Cooper of Sandstone, with whom she made her home; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Eddie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Creek Cemetery. Georgie Pearl Christian MULLENS ­ Georgie Pearl Christian, 92, of 938 Cook St., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born July 28, 1907, in Pride, she was the daughter of the late George Willie and Henrietta Hall Clowers. Mrs. Christian was a lifelong resident of Mullens and a member of First Church of God, Mullens, where she held the positions of Sunday school superintendent, church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. She was past president of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, past president of the First Church of God Women's Missionary Society and past president of the Women's Loyal Temperance Legion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Paul Christian; a son, Dennis Ray Christian, in 1987; two sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include three daughters, Jackie Adams of Mullens, Shelby Christian Rech and her husband, Adam, of San Antonio, Texas, and Mickey Christian Hartinger and her husband, Jim, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Doris Brooks Christian of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Robert Adams, Perry Christian, Michael Christian and Paula White; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Revs. Ronald Adkins and Leon Nunley officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, Princeton. Danny Melvin Mullins AURORA, Colo. ­ Danny Melvin Mullins, 63, formerly of Beckley, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1999, in an Aurora hospital following a sudden illness. Born June 25, 1936, in Sprague, he was the son of the late Everette Mullins and Mary McCormick Mullins. Mr. Mullins was a retired employee of AT&T. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Everette Mullins Jr. and Jimmy Mullins. Survivors include his wife, Verna Fiske Mullins; a son, Randy Mullins of Denver; a daughter, Robin Vojdani of Fort Collins, Colo.; brothers and sisters, Harold Mullins, Pence Mullins, Carl Mullins, Howard Mullins, Billy Mullins, Bobby Mullins, Juanita, Helen, Annabelle and Sally; and five grandchildren, Amber, Jonathan, Stacy, Jasmine and Jaclyn. Born Sept. 21, 1913, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Orlena Daniels. Mrs. Neel was a member of Carmel Presbyterian Church, Gap Mills, and was a homemaker. Her life was lovingly devoted to God and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Ross Neel, on Aug. 18, 1999. Survivors include a sister, Orpha D. Gill of Meadow Bridge; a brother-in-law, George Murphy of Beckley; and many loving nieces and nephews. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Carmel Presbyterian Church, Gap Mills, with the Rev. Born Sept. 28, 1958, in Charleston, he was the son of Ronald and Mary Ann Price of Orlando, Fla. Mr. Price was employed by Fola Coal Co. at Bickmore as a heavy equipment mechanic. Other survivors include his wife, Karen Marshall Price; a stepson, Drew Ballengee of Oak Hill; two brothers, Gregory Price of Cross Lanes and Richard Price of Charleston; and two sisters, Beverly Gragg of Charleston and Deborah Thomas of Charlotte, N.C. Mr. Sykes was a 50-year resident of Clintonville, a retired coal miner and construction worker, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and attended James Chapel United Methodist Church, Clintonville. He was preceded in death by a son, Orville "Bub" Sykes; a sister, Opal Godfrey; and a brother, Roy Sykes. Survivors include his wife, Margie R. Walkup Sykes, and her sister, Pat Craft, of Clintonville; a daughter, Sharon S. Craft and her husband, Jerry, of Clifton Forge, Va.; five sons, Duane A. Sykes and his wife, Angelia, of White Sulphur Springs, Michael L.
