Register Herald Obituaries for September 4, 1999 George A. Barber George A. Barber, 41, of Beckley, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at his home following a short illness. Born May 3, 1958, in Beckley, he was the son of Louise Hoskins of Sweeneysburg and the late Frank Barber. Mr. Barber was owner of Computer Village, a former employee of Lillys' Crown Jewelers and Burgess Pic Pac. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and the College of West Virginia. He was a faithful member of Maynor Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Eva J. Hoskins. Other survivors include his wife and companion of 19 years, Paula Daniels Barber; a son, Scott Allen Barber at home; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Drema Daniels of Mabscott; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Lori Lilly of Roanoke, Va.; two aunts, Janice Nicely of Sweeneysburg and Jeanne Hoskins of Manassas, Va.; three uncles, Harry Hoskins and his wife, Nancy, Howard Hoskins and his wife, Patricia, and Grady Hoskins and his wife, Peggy, all of Beckley; and numerous cousins and friends. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Forrest Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends called 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be David Crouch, Ureal Allen, Mike Tucker, Glen Williams, Jim Bowyer and Warren Bailey. Dr. Ann K. Clark LATROBE, Pa. - Dr. Ann Kinzer Clark, 51, formerly of Charleston, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, following a bone marrow transplant at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. Born Oct. 10, 1947, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Virginia Smith Kinzer and the late A.G. Kinzer, formerly of Kanawha City. Dr. Clark was a member of the Class of 1965 at Charleston High School, earning the honor of National Merit Scholarship Finalist. In 1969 she graduated with honors in chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, Va., and received her doctor of medicine degree from West Virginia University in 1973. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at West Virginia University Hospital in 1976 and was board certified in 1978. In 1976, she began private practice in Fairmont, and from 1982 until the time of her death worked as a partner at Gyno Associates in Latrobe. She also served as the director of the Pre-Natal Clinic at Latrobe Area Hospital and as a clinical professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at West Virginia University Medical School, where she was honored with the school's Distinguished Teaching Award. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God, Anderson, Ind. While living in Charleston, she was a member of the First Church of God, Main Street, and later helped found the Laurel Highlands Church of God in Greensburg, Pa., where she served on the church's steering committee. Dr. Clark also performed as a member of the St. Vincent Camerate Choral Ensemble in Latrobe. Survivors include her husband, Doug Clark; two sons, Andrew, a graduate student at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and Patrick, an undergraduate at Duke University in Durham, N.C.; her uncles, Dan W. Mooney and Henry Cleveland Smith Jr., both of Charleston; a cousin, Mary Mooney Biel of Columbus, Ohio; as well as other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews across the country. No visitation will be held. However, all friends are invited to a memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Four Points Sheraton Inn in Greensburg, Pa. Interment will be held privately at Mount Tabor Cemetery, Beckley. Benjamin Ray Hodges CEDAR BLUFF, Va. - Benjamin Ray Hodges, 46, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, in a Winston-Salem, N.C., hospital following a short illness. Born June 29, 1953, in Princeton, he was the son of Paul Benjamin and Dorothy Kennedy Hodges of Princeton. Mr. Hodges attended Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church. He formerly taught CPR classes for the Red Cross and taught mining classes at Southwest Virginia Community College, Richlands, Va. He formerly worked as an electrician for Amigo Smokeless Coal Co. and was an employee of Hunter Paving. Other survivors include his wife, Carol McGlothlin Hodges; four sons, Rocky Hodges and his wife, LaCosta, Daniel Hodges and Andrew Hodges, all of Princeton, and Adam Hodges of Camp Lejune, N.C.; three brothers, Kenneth Hodges and his wife, Jill, of Pineville, Benny Hodges and his wife, Sissy, of Basin and Steven Kennedy and his wife, Ruby, of Abingdon, Va.; four sisters, Mrs. Ernie (Debbie) Vance of Pineville, Mrs. Clayton (Shirley) Dickens of Wyco, Mrs. Butch (Kathy) Acord of Crab Orchard and Mrs. Gene (Versie) Hall of Bluefield, Va.; and two grandchildren, Gracilyn Hodges and Mason Kroll, both of Princeton. Kinsler SCARBRO - William John Kinsler, 73, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, in an Oak Hill medical center following an apparent heart attack. Born March 26, 1926, in Mount Hope, he was the son of the late Anthony and Lucy Wingrove Kinsler. Mr. Kinsler was a disabled miner, retired from West Virginia State Road Commission (Division of Highways), attended First Church of God, Mount Hope, and was a member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oather Wingrove and Elvin Kinsler; and a sister, Katherine Craver. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Warwick Kinsler; a daughter, Wilma Conner and husband, Bennie, of Scarbro; three grandchildren, Benji Conner and Lynette Smith and her husband, Pete, all of Pilot Mountain, N.C., and Kimberly Conner and her fiancee, Brandon Stover, of Scarbro; two sisters, Marie Byers of Maryland and Louise Harper of Beckley; a half sister, Esther Ferrall of Baltimore; three brothers, Ralph Kinsler of Sun, Otto Kinsler of Sophia and Carl Kinsler of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews. Lovell Sr., 80, of 5004 Elmwood St., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at his home. Born Nov. 29, 1918, in Kingston, Fayette County, he was the son of the late Samuel Wade Lovell and Anna Lulie Stone Lovell. Mr. Lovell was a 50-year member of IBEW 968 of Parkersburg. In 1963 he was hired as a senior field engineer and technical adviser for the design, construction and operation of the NASA Mission Control Center, Johnson Space Center, Houston. He also assisted in the data installation of the NASA Flight Acceleration Laboratory at Houston NASA facility and was later assigned as superintendent of the NASA Mississippi test facility, Data Handling Center, near Gulfport, Miss. In 1970, he was employed by Service Technology Corp. at the Houston NASA site and was obliged to have been assigned to Mission Control during the Apollo XIII flight to the moon. He gave technical support to the Apollo XIII investigating team following the astronauts' safe return to Houston after their aborted mission. Mr. Lovell was a member of Edgelawn United Methodist Church, where he served as Boy Scout master, official board member, Sunday school teacher and Annual Methodist Conference delegate, Building Committee and lay leader. He was a charter member of Fort Neal Kiwanis Club, where he served as a board member, International delegate and state chairman of the Children's Miracle Network Telethon. He had been honored as a distinguished president and lieutenant governor of Kiwanis. He helped with the Parkersburg Safety Town Program for pre-schoolers. He was a member of the Gideons International, Parkersburg Camp. He was also a member of the National Eagle Scouts Association, Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge No. 3, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Royal Arch Masonry, Jerusalem Chapter No. 3, Calvary Commandery No. 3, Knights of the Illustrious Order of the Red Cross, Knights of Malta, Knights of Templar, Nemesis Temple of the Shrine, Ohio Valley Shrine Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1212, DAV and American Legion Post No. 15. Lovell served in the U.S. Army, Infantry 457 Reinforcement Battalion, during World War II, landing at LaHavre, France, during the Normandy Allied Invasion. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Margaret Lovisia Walker Lovell; an infant brother, William Carliss Lovell; a brother, Wade Dudley Lovell; and two infant grandchildren. Survivors include his constant companion and close family friend of many years, May Belle Frazier; his children, James K. Lovell Jr. of Morgantown, Joyce Suzanne Tewes of Pearland, Texas, Michael D. Lovell of Elizabeth and Robert L. Lovell, Rodney D. Lovell and Lynford C. Lovell of Parkersburg; three sisters, Betty Prillaman of Martinsburg, Va., Lena Darnell of Sophia and Martha McMillion of Blacksburg, Va.; a brother, Frank Lovell of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Belcher Martin CLEMMONS, N.C. - Lisa Lea Belcher Martin, 40, formerly of Sophia, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at her home. Born Dec. 7, 1958, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary Belcher of Sophia. Mrs. Martin was a graduate of Independence High School and attended the College of West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mark Combs; her maternal grandparents, Aurora and Doss Lopez; and her paternal grandmother, Rose Clyburn. Other survivors include her husband, Kelly Martin; two daughters, Jessica and Keri, a son, Mark, and two stepsons, Adam and Aaron, all of Clemmons; a brother, Robert Belcher and his wife, Debra, and their children, Robert and Linsy, all of Beckley; a sister, Aurora Walker and her son, David, of Crab Orchard; an aunt and uncle, Mary and Oakley Blevins of Beckley; and the Rev. Combs of Soak Creek. Arrangements for cremation were made in North Carolina. Mildred M. Smith DANESE - Mildred M. Smith, 79, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Nov. 21, 1919, in Winona, she was the daughter of the late Mable Goff and Edgar Critchley. Ms. Smith was a retired nurse's aide who had worked at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clona Smith. Survivors include two sons, E. "Jack" Smith of Waldorf, Md., and Robert Smith of San Marcos, Calif.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Betty Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
