Born Jan. 7, 1945, in Hines, she was the daughter of Blanche Butcher Clark of Hines and the late Andrew Clark. Mrs. Boothe was a homemaker. Other survivors include her husband of 35 years, Billy Boothe; a daughter, Connie Keiffer and her husband, Bryan, of Clintonville; two sons, Ernie Boothe and his wife, Christi, of Ronceverte and Jason Boothe and his wife, Tara, of Rupert; three sisters, Verla Barry of California and Janet Butler and Glenna Poole, both of West Virginia; five brothers, Howard, Burley, Harold and Roger Clark, all of Virginia, and Darrell Clark of West Virginia; five grandchildren, Jessica Boothe, Caitlin Boothe, Joshua Keiffer, Jacob Boothe and Brandon Boothe; and a stepgrandchild, Garrett Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe F. Jackson; and two brothers, Frank and Dean Broyles. Born Feb. 19, 1909, in Dunns, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Romanza Lilly Hatcher. Mrs. Lilly was a faithful and lifelong member of Flat Top Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell G. Lilly; two sons, Russ Lilly and Darrell Lilly; three daughters, Vera Farley, Gloria Stafford and Vivian Farley; and two sisters, Elizabeth Farley and Goldie Lilly. Survivors include two sons, Max Lilly and his wife, Pat, and Larry Lilly and his wife, Sue, all of Waterford, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Thelma Lilly of Flat Top; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clownie Hatcher of Princeton and Virgil Lawson of Lindside; and three sisters, Myrtle Bragg and her husband, Melby, of Shady Spring, Sylvia Hunt and her husband, Chester, of Beckley and Bell Wills of Coal City. Born Oct. 19, 1912, in Christopher, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Martha Boulet Gautier. Mrs. Ruffino was a member of Beaver Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ruffino, in 1984. Survivors include a daughter, Mary T. McEwen and her husband, Fred, of Sumter, with whom she made her home; a son, J. Lewis W. Small WINONA ­ Lewis Walker Small, 78, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at an Oak Hill medical center following a long illness. Born Feb. 23, 1921, in Edmond, he was the son of the late Charles and Hannah Clement Small. Mr. Brown was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a 52-year resident of Winona and a member of Keeney's Creek Baptist Church, Winona. He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Virginia Stokley Small; a daughter, Paula Ellis and her husband, David, of Winona; two sons, Dennis Walker Small and his wife, Judy, and Lewis E. "Eddie" Small and his wife, Cathy, all of Winona; two sisters, Edith Jones of Marion, Va., and Gladys Jones of Fayetteville; a brother, Herbert Small of Winona; and five grandchildren, Jamie, Jenny, Stacy, Ryan and River. Varney, 75, of Prosperity, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, in a Beckley care center following a long illness. Born Dec. 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Henry Varney and Nancy Adkins Varney. Mr. Varney was a retired coal miner, member of the Masonic Lodge in Logan and a superintendent of New River Coal Co. and Ranger Fuel Coal Co. He was a member of Light House Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Dale Varney. Survivors include two sons, Junior Varney of Beckley and Clarence Varney of St. Louis; a stepdaughter, Mary Lou Allen of Charlottesville, Va.; three brothers, Elmer Varney of Tennessee, J.D. Varney of Virginia and Donald Ray Varney of Georgia; a sister, Margie Hammons of Tennessee; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
