Register Herald Obituaries for September 24, 1999 Mae A. Angle Mae A. Angle, 89, of 104 Davis Drive, Beckley, formerly of Crumpler, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at a Beckley hospital. Born June 11, 1910, in Gilliam, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Laura Keesee Ellis. Mrs. Angle had been a resident of a Beckley personal care center for seven years and for many years formerly made her home in Crumpler. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Crumpler United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry B. Angle. Survivors include three daughters, Jackie Feltz of Henderson, N.C., Bonnie G. Machovina of Lorain, Ohio, and F. Sandra Maiolo of Beckley; two sisters, Myrtle Somers of Washington, D.C., and Geri Evans of Yadkinville, N.C.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell, with the Rev. George Hamrick officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Bluewell. Launa Sue Barkley HILLSBORO ­ Launa Sue Barkley, 12, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, in a Roanoke, Va., hospital following a sudden illness. Born Oct. 16, 1986, in Greenbrier County, she was the daughter of Rick and Ollie Carter Barkley of Hillsboro. Launa was a member of New Grace Baptist Tabernacle. She had been home schooled her entire life. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmothers, Launa Marie Crane Barkley and Phyllis Poage Barkley. Other survivors include two brothers, Joshua and Caleb, both at home; her paternal grandfather, Elwood Barkley of Renick; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carter of Fairlea and Roberta Carter of Cool Ridge; her maternal great-grandmother, Eunice Lewis of Daniels; and several uncles, aunts and cousins. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Frankford Chapel of McCraw Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Tate and Rick Barkley officiating. Burial will follow in McMillion Cemetery, Friars Hill. George 'Tom' Buskirk WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS ­ George Thomas "Tom" Buskirk, 75, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at his home following an extended illness. Born July 31, 1924, in Huntington, he was the son of the late Russell Clay "Red" and Betty Stringer Buskirk. Mr. Buskirk was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, White Sulphur Springs, and had managed the Kate's Mountain Gun Club at The Greenbrier hotel for many years before his retirement. He was a broker for Checkerboard Realty in White Sulphur Springs and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid outdoorsman who was known as a gracious host for both hunting and fishing visits at his home. His love for the out-of-doors was a continuous gift to his children, grandchildren and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Buskirk Hanshaw; and a niece, Gayle Hanshaw. Survivors include his wife, Mary Caudill Buskirk; three sons, Pete Buskirk of Wilmington, N.C., Mike Buskirk and his wife, Betty, of Floyd, Va., and Russell Buskirk of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Claudia Buskirk of Roanoke, Va., and Laura Williams and her husband, Dalton, of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Seth, Elizabeth and Benjamin Buskirk of Wilmington and Megan and Drew Buskirk of Floyd; a nephew, Ted Hanshaw of Sarasota, Fla.; and a niece, Carol Bukowski of Orlando, Fla. Ked 'Larry' Davis Jr. HUNTINGTON ­ Ked "Larry" Davis Jr., 49, formerly of Beaver, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, in a Huntington hospital following a sudden illness. Born Aug. 3, 1950, in Hensley, he was the son of Virginia Davis Ward of Beaver and the late Ked Davis Sr. Mr. Davis was a former coal miner and a member of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. Other survivors include two daughters, Lynette Richmond of Prosperity and Christy Davis of North Carolina; a brother, Charles Davis and his wife, Betty, of Big Sandy; two sisters, Beverly Meade and her husband, Ted, of Beckley and Connie Green and her husband, Roger, of Beckley; two grandchildren; and many friends. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Revs. Gene Hall and Dennis Burks officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Farley Jr., 78, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, in a Princeton hospital following a long illness. Born March 20, 1921, in Lilly, he was the son of the late William W. Sr. and Laura Ada Vest Farley. Mr. Farley was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who was wounded in combat, having been awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of Jordan Chapel Church, Pipestem, and attended James Chapel Methodist Church, True. Mr. Farley was a charter member of the Pipestem Ruritan Club, DAV and West Virginia Farm Bureau. He lived most of his life in Summers County. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Prince, Claude, Vivian, Robert, Nathan and Earl Farley; and twin infant sisters. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Faye Lowe Farley; three daughters, Patty Farley of Pipestem, Glenna Colanero of Fairmont and Mrs. Donald (Nita) Phillips of Lerona; a sister, Mrs. Edward (Hattie) Lowe of Pipestem; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. David Allen Lambert RAINELLE ­ David Allen "Little Red" Lambert, 49, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, in Alleghany County, Va. Born May 8, 1950, in Rupert, he was the son of the late Roy and Agnes Ratliff Lambert. Mr. Lambert was a truck driver for Reynolds Oil Co. Inc. and owner of A.T.V. Parts and Service of Rainelle. Survivors include his wife, Ella Rae Heaster Lambert; four daughters, Sherri Butler of Ohio and Tina A. Lambert, Brandy J. Lambert and Skyler D. Lambert, all of Rainelle; two sons, Greg Boone and David A. Lambert Jr., both of Rainelle; two stepsons, Bobby J. Gumm of Grandview and Eddie Gumm of Rupert; and six grandchildren. Gracie Wade Ross Gracie Wade Ross, 93, of Glen White, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 1, 1906, in Rocky Mount, Va., she was the daughter of the late Doc and Mary Jane Wade. Mrs. Ross was a homemaker and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Glen White. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Ross, in 1974; eight sons, Lonzo, Calvin, Clyde, Sammy, Walter, Bernard James, William and Russell Ross; and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include five sons, Alphonso Ross of Glen White, Sherman Ross and his wife, Pamela, of Beckley, Milton Ross and his wife, Julia, of Queens, N.Y., Huston Ross and his wife, Janice, of Columbus, Ohio, and Malvin Ross and his wife, Janet "Pat," of Beckley; four daughters, Effie Harris of Glen White, Gracie Mills of Far Rockaway, N.Y., Aline Ward and her husband, Carl, of Glen White and Martha Dowling and her husband, John, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 50 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren. Edith 'Dimp' Tilley SANTA MARIA, Calif. ­ Edith "Dimp" Turner Tilley, 72, died Wednesday Sept. 22, 1999, in a Santa Maria hospital. Born Dec. 8, 1926, in Pax, she was the daughter of Maude Turner of Maxwell Hill, Beckley, and the late Dewey Turner. Other survivors include her husband, Herbert "Bud" Tilley; sons, Allen Tilley of Oregon, Jeff Tilley of Santa Maria, and twin sons, Gary Tilley of Santa Maria and Barry Tilley of San Diego; sisters, Margie Hearn of Gainesville, Fla., Janice O'dell and Betty Hurt, both of Ohio, Peggy Hoosier of North Lilly Drive, Beckley, Linda Broemsen of Emerald Isle, N.C., and Gloria Curry of Prosperity; a brother, James "Jim" Turner of Maxwell Hill, Beckley; and several grandchildren. The body will be cremated and interred in a mausoleum in Santa Maria. Memorial services will be at a later date.
