"Marge" Callaway, 78, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at her son's home in Kissimmee, Fla., following an extended illness. Born Feb. 4, 1921, in Connellsville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James David Wender and Sara Gladys Williams Wender. Mrs. Callaway was a graduate of Mount Hope High School and Cumberland College. She was a homemaker, member of Mount Hope Presbyterian Church, teacher in children's Sunday school class, and in her early years operated a day care center at the church and was a former Girl Scout leader. She was preceded in death by her brothers, James David Wender and William "Bill" Wender. Survivors include her beloved husband of 59 years, Harvey R. "Jack" Callaway; a son, J.D. "Buz" Callaway and his wife, Helen, of Kissimmee; a daughter, Ann Willis and her husband, Nicholas, of Switzerland; and five grandchildren. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Hope Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Shumate officiating. Interment will be in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Hubert H. Dean Hubert H. Dean, 73, of Grandview, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999. Born Oct. 6, 1925, he was the son of the late Gordon and Mildred Varney Dean. Mr. Dean was a member of the Church of God Family Worship Center, MacArthur, and a retired chief electrician with Consolidation Coal Co. and Island Creek Coal Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a prisoner of war during World War II. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Dean. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Bernice Faye Daniel Dean; a son, Roger Dean and his wife, Debbie, of Grandview; four daughters, JoAnn French and her husband, Roy, of Daniels, Connie Richardson and her husband, Sam, of Pearisburg, Va., Gina Phlegar and her husband, David, of Grandview and Kimberly Franklin and her husband, Richard, of Grandview; four brothers and four sisters, all from out of town; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Church of God Family Worship Center, MacArthur, with the Rev. Mark Schrade officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Midway VFW Post No. 4326. Friends may call 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church. Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Charlie W. Fizer GRASSY MEADOWS ­ Charlie William Fizer, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, in a Rupert care center following a long illness. Born March 16, 1918, in Maitland, he was the son of the late Daniel and Claudia Lyons Fizer. Mr. Fizer was a member of the Meadow Grove Baptist Church and a retired miner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Allene Fizer; a daughter, Patricia SantaRita; two brothers, Dan and Harry Fizer; and four sisters, Thelma, Evelyn, Mabel and Una. Survivors include two sons, Joshua P. Fizer of Grassy Meadows and Charlie Fizer and his wife, Darlene, of Asbury, Ohio; two daughters, Sharon O. Holliday and her husband, Chris, of Troutville, Va., and Karen M. Malott and her husband, Allen, of Arcanum, Ohio; two stepsons, Joseph Reed of Rupert and Timothy Reed and his wife, Sheila, of Lansing, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Christina and Stephanie Holliday, Michael, Kelli and Sean Mallott, Dana and Jeff SantaRita, and Sharon and Christie Fizer; and six stepgrandchildren, Amanda, Sarah, Rachel, Jacob, Jamie and Sharon Reed. Carl John Legursky Carl John Legursky, 67, of Buckhannon and Monroe, N.C., formerly of Raleigh County, died of natural causes Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, in Monroe. Mr. Legursky was retired from the West Virginia State Police and was a former instructor at the Institute of Police Technology and Management at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville. He was a former chief of police at Beckley, a former warden at West Virginia State Penitentiary and was retired from the West Virginia Department of Corrections. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War, receiving a Silver Star and three Purple Hearts. Survivors include his wife, Janet Herndon Legursky; a daughter, Karla Legursky; two sons, Wayne Legursky of Beckley and Wesley Legursky; his mother, Mary Legursky of Mabscott; a sister, Evelyn Shumate of Columbia, Tenn.; two brothers, James Legursky of Owega, N.Y., and Jerome Legursky of Mabscott; and four grandchildren. Morrison BARBOURSVILLE ­ Genevieve E. "Jenny" Morrison, 74, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at her home. Born June 18, 1925, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Alwilda Madora Alford McCallister. Mrs. Morrison was a 60-year member of Hurricane Church of the Nazarene. Before her retirement, she was a dispatcher for the Hurricane Police Department. But her greatest life's work was through her example, she instilled the characteristics of love, servanthood, forgiveness, honesty, sincerity and an appreciation for all the minute details of God's goodness into her daughters and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Webb; a grandson, Christopher Walker; and her siblings, Hallie McCallister, Garland McCallister and Arbutus Quentrill. Survivors include her husband, Henry "Drew" Morrison; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judith Walker of Mullens and Jacqueline and James McCoy of Huntington; five grandchildren, Andrew Walker and Whitney Genevieve Walker of Mullens, Zachary Lucas and Yuri McCoy, both of Huntington, and Hillary McCoy of Philadelphia; two sisters, Myrtle Faye Smith and Xenil Marker, both of Hurricane; two brothers, Orel McCallister of Hurricane and Hillard McCallister of Scott Depot; and a host of lifelong best friends. Lena Jane Potter ANSTED ­ Lena Jane Potter, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at an Oak Hill medical center following a long illness. Born May 2, 1915, in Crown Hill, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert Hudnall and Gertrude Clark Hudnall. Mrs. Potter was a lifetime resident of Ansted, a homemaker and a member of Ansted Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Potter, in 1965. Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Dufour and her husband, Charles, of Ansted and Dee Drennen of Oak Hill; a son, Wayne "Butch" Potter and his wife, Ruth, of Ansted; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Price was a member of Oak Hill Gospel Tabernacle, a homemaker and a retired clerk at the New River Co. Store at Mount Hope from 1930 to 1940. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth H. Brown; and two brothers, the Rev. Harry R. Peyton and the Rev. Leslie Peyton. Mrs. Smith was a former employee of Raleigh General Hospital in the housekeeping department. She was a member of Beckley Chapter 822, Women of the Moose, and Ladies Auxiliary of Sophia VFW Post No. 4326. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick William Smith; three sisters, Pauline Walker, Helen Fox and Donzella Forren; four brothers, John, Edgar, Charles T. and Ernest Forren; and a grandson, William James Pack. Survivors include a son, Fred R. Ware CLEVELAND ­ Harriett Luversia Ware, 91, formerly of Lochgelly, died of natural causes Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999. Born Aug. 2, 1908, in New Haven, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Estus Newsome and Sarah Williams Newsome. Mrs. Ware was a homemaker and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Lochgelly, where she was a member of the choir and secretary. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Bessemar, Ala., and attended Pinewood Vocational Education Center, Pinewood, Ala. Mrs. Ware was a member of No. 2 District Baptist Music Organization, Woman's Missionary Baptist Church and Education Convention, was treasurer of the Membership Committee of West Virginia State Quartet Convention, member of West Virginia State Usher Federation, member of No. 2 District Chous and an officer and member of the Royal Trumpet Quartet. She was a member of the Parent-Teachers Association (PTA). She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marrietta Davis, in 1991. Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Henry Hobart Ware; three sons, Henry Ware Jr. and his wife, June, Jerome Ware and his wife, Regina, and Melvin Ware and his wife, Shirley, all of Cleveland; five daughters, Henrietta Champion and her husband, Walter, of California, Juanita Crider and her husband, Louie, of Cleveland, Gwendolyn Pack and her husband, Henry, of Cleveland, Yvonne Harris and her husband, Clarence, of New York and Brenda Abrams and her husband, Arthur, of Cleveland; an adopted daughter, Sononi A. Born June 6, 1960, in Elyria, Ohio, he was the son of Elbert Walter Young of Mousie, Ky., and the late Judith Ann Martin Young. Mr. Young was self-employed as the owner of EZ Check Cashing.
