Obituary of Althea McMillan Daniels Clay Godbey - Raleigh Co. WV local newspaper obituary article for Althea McMillan Daniels Clay Godbey - copy attached. "Prayer service, by Rev. Wm. Ross Lloyd, pastor of the First Christian church, will be held this afternoon at one forty-five at the J. P. Clay home, on Oakwood Avenue, over the remains of Mrs. Aletha Godbey, mother of Mr. Clay, who died in his home yesterday morning at 10:30. The funeral cortege will leave the Clay home after the brief service and the body will be taken to the old home place where burial will be made in the Snuffer Grove Cemetery, Rev. J. W. Legg, pastor of Mt. Tabor church conducting services at three o'clock. Mrs. Godbey, who had attained the advanced age of 84 years, had made her home with her son, J. P. Clay, for the past twenty years, or since the death of her last husband, Anderson F. Godbey, she having been three times married, the first time to Robert Daniels, who was killed during the Civil War. To this union two children were born, William Daniels and Mrs. Leftwich Clay, both of whom survive. She was next married to Jackson Clay and eight children were born, two of whom are living, J. P. Clay and Mrs. John Patton. One sister and one brother also survive. They are Dudley McMillan of the city, and Mrs. Isabel Daniel of Mossey. Thirty three grand children, forty-seven great grand children and nine great-great grand children were descendents of the first two marriages. Until a short time before her death Mrs. Godbey had enjoyed splendid health and although she was not expected to rally from the critical illness which had confined her to the bed for several days, death nevertheless came as a shock to those who had loved and cared for her many years. Mrs. Godbey was a faithful and loyal member of the Mount Tabor Baptist church. She was a good mother, friend and neighbor and her loss will be greatly felt by those who knew her."
