James Anderson Elmer Via (04 Jan 1877/21 Nov 1902) and Emma Stella Gadd (23 May
1879/24 Jan 1965) were married on 06 Nov 1900 by the Rev. Alfred (Alf) Cole of
Summers County. The witnesses were Leckie Harvey (maybe Stella's aunt, Electra
Gadd Harvey) and Sarah Parker. This picture was probably taken around the time
of their marriage since there is one of Stella with the same background. 
Anderson’s parents were probably Isaac and Mary Via who were listed in the 1880
census as living in Shady Spring, Raleigh County, W.Va.

Stella and Anderson’s son Dewey Abshire Anderson Via (12 Jan 1902/12 Sep 1936)
was only 10 months old when his father was killed on Nov. 21, 1902. Anderson was
working in timber when a tree fell on him. Anderson's coworkers sent an old
woman to tell Stella but the woman couldn't bring herself to deliver the bad
news. She said Stella was so happy that day. Without being forewarned, Stella
looked out and saw the men carrying her dead husband's body to the house. 

After Anderson’s death, Stella married Leonard Haliburton Vest (27 Nov 1880/20
Mar 1960). Leonard and Stella lived most of their married life on White Oak
Mountain in Raleigh County.
