The Obituary Of Evaline McCan-Shepard Daughter of Henry Lee McCann and Elizabeth Wright From: "The Madison Press" London, Ohio The daughter of Henry and Elizabeth McCan, was born in West Virginia on Feb 4, 1852, and departed this life June 21, 1934 at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 28 days, at her home in London, being the last member of her family to go. She moved to Ohio with her parents when a child, and has spent most of her life in Madison County. There are some things of which we may not speak, These are thoughts that cannot die, There are tasks that make the strong heart weak, And bring a pallor upon the cheek, And a mist before the eye. Death has entered our home and borne away one of the most highly esteemed after living more than four score years. I know nothing more beautiful , so sweet, and lingering like a sweet Benediction at its close. Eva Her dress was worn and faded, And her hat was out of date, Her face was growing wrinkled, Aged from sacrifices great. Just an ordinary woman, Who had known too much of care, Yet the little brood around her Saw an Angel standing there. How they loved that faded bonnett, How they harkened to her voice! And the sound of her dear laughter Made each child's heart rejoice. Some there were who called her common Even passed her with a stare, But the little brood around her Saw an Angel standing there. More than Queen and more than Goddess, Though her life was filled with care, Yet the little brood around her Saw an Angel standing there! Sent to Archives by Dorothy McCann-Phillips Dodie70@aol.com
