SMITH, Civil War Soldier, Sergeant, Co. E., WV 7th Regiment b. 22 January 1827 "Randolph"; d. 30 June 1865 Field Hospital near Washington DC; buried Arlington National Cemetery, Sec. 13, grave 12123. In an 1870 Civil War pension affidavit, David W. Frashuer, 68, states John Smith was "raised near him" in Harrison County & that Frashuer's son, Kincheloe Frashuer, served in same company & was ill in same hospital as John Smith. Smith married at Buffalo, Dec. 19, 1850 Harrison Co. (West) Virginia, Charlotte HYDE d/o Daniel & Mary (Richards) Hyde, b. 16 Feb 1832 Harrison County, WV, d. 24 Oct 1917, Upsher Co., bur Pleasant Dale Chh Cem, Hinkleville. John E. Smith only appears once in census records - 1860 Harrison Co. WV, living in Cherry Camp with his wife & children. Civil War widow Charlotte Smith traded their Harrison County property with John S. Haney of Upshur County,WV in 1874, where she moved with her youngest children. SMITH children: (1) Daniel L. (1851-1916) said to have died in Conneaut, OH., wife unknown, children said to be: Mottie, Ellie; (2) Mary Jane (b.1853) d.Upshur, m. John Tenney, children: Rebecca, Franklin, Orpha, Fred, Homer; (3) Sarah Ellen (1855-1942) died Upshur Co., m. David Adams. Children: Willey J. Smith, Clarence Adams; (4) Catherine Virginia (b.1857) died Springfield, OH, m. Wilson Goldsmith, child: Nell; (5) Elizabeth Ann (1859-1945) died Summit Park (Clarksburg, WV) m. Sylvanus Davis (1846-1929) who lived on Long Run, West Union, & Summit Park, children: Deuron Clifford, Festus Dallas, Llewellyn Layman, Holly Maytland, and Mona Davis; (6) Rebecca Sevilla (1861-1928) m. Mason Cutright; (7) William Jefferson (1863-1942) d. Upshur Co., m. Cora Reeder, children: Walter, Orvan, Oma, Stella, Lola, Delphia; (8) Margaret Bird (b.1865) died Conneaut, OH, m. James M. B. Shreves, children: Wilbert & Harley; (9) Charles Edward (1868-1872); (10) Frances Lucinda "Aunt Sis" (b. 1871) lived in Lumberport, WV, m. Elam C. Reeder, children: Lottie Loretta, Hoy, Rosalee.
