This note accompanies the 1996-98 additions to the Montrose Cemetery listing. I collected 
them on July 13, 1998.

In addition, I'm enclosing a "front end" for the listing. Although
 we not in any way involved, I sensed that there is some rancor among those who volunteer 
their efforts in the operation of this cemetery. I don't want us in the middle.

It seems 
that the cemetery actually has three owners. They are the Montrose Primitive Baptist Church, 
the Montrose chapter (?) of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (the Rebekah's are still
 active), and Randolph County. The name should be changed to "Montrose Cemetery" with an
 addendum that it is owned and operated by the three groups.

It's interesting that the 
ones who do most of the care for the cemetery, dig graves, supervise grass cutting, etc.
 are actually Montrose town residents not Knowingly connected with the IOOF with the 
Primitive Baptists.  One of the most active workers, who has been faulted by some of 
the church members, is actually a direct descendant of the Church Elder who was active
 in the establishment of the cemetery. He doesn't know this yet. He has always assumed 
that  Elder Murphy and his family were an unrelated Murphy family.
