Dear Sir: I am informed that you cannot find the name of William McCann in Capt Proctor's Co., 5th Regiment Virginia Militia. Wim. McCann told me the other day that he was mistaken in the Captain's name. He was a Pvt in Capt. John Bodkins or Botkins Comp., but he has forgotten the Co. Regiment that Capt. Bodkin was Captain of. If you look over the list of soldiers that served under him, you will find his name and I think that will satisfy you that he did serve and you can issue his warrant accordingly. He is very willing to be qualified to it but I thought that just to inform you of that fact would be sufficient, but if it is not, just inform me by the next mail and I will forward you his affidavit. He served with: Thomas Edwin, William Cotter, James Curry, John Curry, William Curry, Jarrott Armstrong, Samuel Wilson, and John Reamon or Reasmon, or similar spelling, orig. not clear (unreadable closing) Signed Alfred Hutton In a letter written in Nov. 19th of 1853 Huttonsville, Va Lt. Loren P. Waldo Comm. of Pensions A letter from Meadville Pa from Alfred Hutton to Mr. L.P. Waldo Meadville, Pa. June 13, 1854 Mr. L. P. Waldo Comm. of Pensions Dear Sir As I have often addressed you from Huttonville, Randolph County, Va., I feel myself at liberty to address you from this place. I wish to know if you have issued a Land Warrant for William McCan of Randolph County Va. or not or if you ever received the papers certifying to the loss of the former Warrant. I had the papers forwarded to you more than two months ago, and I think it very strange that I have not heard from you in regard to it since. Moses Hutton of Randolph Co Va. is attending to the affair for me -- and he informs me that he has not received anything from you in regard to it since he sent the papers on. The Warrant should have been issued immediately upon the reception of the papers. I wish you would be so kind as to write me by the returning mail in regard to it, but not to senf the Warrant to this place for me. And you will much oblige me by doing so. Respectfully Yours Alfred Hutton My address Meadsville, Crawford County, Pa. ***************************
