CHEVAUXDEFRISE CHURCH Ransom Kendall and his wife were "pillars of the church" at Chevauxdefrise from the time of its institution until the close of their lives. They gave the ground for the church and cemetery and were important factors in the erection of the first church, near 1867. Their son, John, who died in childhood, filled the first grave in this cemetery, in October, 1857. Others in this early church were James Starr, Henry H. Amos, Washington Parker, Daniel S. Cox, Mr. Benjamin Starkey, and their wives and families. No church services are being held in this church at this time, nor have been for many years, except for homecomings and funerals. Yet descendants of these early pioneers and others interested, have kept the church, cemetery, and grounds in very good condition. this year, 1963, marks completion of an improvement effort, with the exterior and roof of the structure being painted, and some other needed repairs.
