Zacharias Pritchard(Pritchett) I believe that Zacharias Pritchett, son of Phillip from Surry Co. North Carolina, to be the father of William Phillip John Wesley, and Zacharias Jr. because he had the enumeration #317 in the 1840 Morgan County Ky. Census and William, Phillip, and Zacharias had #315 and John Wesley had #323. They resided on the Middle Fork of the Little Sandy River in Morgan County. Sons of Zacharias: William Pritchett The 1870 Lincoln Co. Wv. census states that William was born in N.C. The 1880 Lincoln Co. census states that both he and his father, Zacharias, were born in N.C. and his mother was born in S.C. He married Mary Lyon in 1833 at Louisa Kentucky(Lawrence Co.) On 28 Jan 1862 William enlisted (for the 2nd time) in company A of the 34th Virginia Mounted Rifles. He served with his sons John, Lewis, and Wesley, and his son-in-law William Kelley. All signed up to serve with Col. Vincent Witcher at Logan C.H, Logan Virginia(later to become Logan County West Virginia) except for William Kelly, who signed up at Louisa Ky. Kelly deserted before a year of service an surrendered himself to Union Forces at the Battle of Louisa He was transported to Kemper Barracks in Cincinnati, Ohio where he pledged the oath of loyalty to the Union. My Pritchards were probably involved in the Battles of Barboursville and Guyandotte according to a book by Scott Cole. All four Pritchards were at the Battle of Gettysburg (2nd day) under the command of JEB Stuart and Lt. Col Vincent Witcher. I'm sure they fought bravely at the springhouse on the East Cavalry Field and spent the night in Rummels Barn. According to Scott Cole’s book, during that second day of fighting they “kicked butt” on a crack New Jersey Unit. I'm sure that the Pritchard's received wounds, but none were killed that day. maybe that is how my Gt. Gt. grandfather acquired the nickname “Cripple Bill”. John, son of Wm. & Mary According to the1880 Lincoln Co. census, John was born in 1827 According to Herston Pritchard, John’s LIVING grandson, John and his 2nd wife America Parsons/Pritchard lived in Smokey Bottom Kentucky(Martin Co.) until he moved to Lincoln Co. in 1875 Lewis, son of Wm. & Mary According to the 1880 Lincoln Co. Wv. census, Lewis was born in Kentucky. The 1860 Cabell Co census states that he was born in 1834 an his wife Julia Evaline Eplin/Pritchard was born in 1837. Enlisted 24 Aug 1862 at Logan C.H. for 3 yrs or duration. Paroled at Charleston, Wv. 26 Apr 1865. Age 31, 5'10”, fair complexion, gray eyes, dark hair. Wesley, son of Wm. & Mary Acc. to the 1850 Wayne County census, he was born in 1844. This same census lists a white felale age 13 named Zolpha living in the same household and having the same name. Also a Henry Eplin b 1820 and a Jessica Jane Adkins/Eplin ( wife Charity”s parents) Acc. to a book by Scott Cole, Wesley was listed in Col. Witcher's post war roster as a member of Co. A William Jr., son of Wm. & Mary Acc. to the 1860 Lincoln Co. Wv. census he was born in 1850. His wife was Cynthia Harless/Pritchard Zacharias, son of Wm. & Mary Acc. to the 1900 Lincoln Co. census in August of 1849 George Wilmer, grandson of Wm. & Mary George W. though the natural born son of John(son of Wm. & Mary) by a previous marriage lived with his father for only a brief time. Acc. to one family member, tradition states that George W. had a sibling from the first marriage that died as a direct result of child abuse. America Parsons didn't like the two from a former marriage and locked them out of the cabin when John wasn't there. Also America would soil the floor and tell John that George did it! The younger sibling died and consequently George lived with his uncle Lewis and his grandparents, Wm. & Mary. George married his first cousin Nancy an lived and died in Branchland, Lincoln Co. He was a blacksmith by trade making parts and machinery for the mines. William “Boss” Pritchard, grandson of Wm. & Mary The 1870 Wayne Co. & 1880 Cabell Co./ census lists his birthdate as 1880. He was killed by Donald Stewart of Tiernan St.,Guyandotte,Cabell,Wv, in a hit and run car accident. while crossing 3rd Ave in Huntington in the 30's Lonnie Walter Prichard, gt grandson of Wm & Mary Lonnie allegedly died in the Huntington State Hospital at about the age of 37. He was known to bring girlfriends to family dinners and leave his wife at home. A great dresser and good looker acc. to some. It is rumored QUITE STRONGLY that he died as a result of complications brought on by a “social disease”. Poor great great uncle Lonnie!!! Ed Prichard Copyright 1996 by Ed Prichard.
