Submitted by Glen Gallagher - 71056.1055 @Compuserve.Com, Jan. 4, 1998 =========================================================================== The following transcription is a copy of a Graham family history which Mr. James Peters forwarded to me (Glen Gallagher) in 1989. It contained lots of information on the lives of the Graham's and related lines, but unfortunately the quality of the copy had deteriorated through multliple generations of copying. By the time I got Mr. Peters' copy, it might not have been reasonable to expect being able to make further legible copies of the document. Because of that, I decided to retype the document so it would be available to other interested researchers. In sections of the text where I was not able to clearly read the words, I inserted [bracketed] sections. Based on the clarity of the specific entry, I either left the bracketed entries blank, or made my best guess at what the original text had been. In either case, I wanted to make sure that subsequent researchers were aware that the bracketed sections may be different than that of the original document which was first composed in 1899. In segments of the document where there is significant text lost, I typically noted that with a comment enclosed in brackets. Those comments at times refer to page numbers which reference the orginal document. Consequently they will not be generally useful when looking at the current transcription. As noted toward the end of the document, this particular copy has previously been "re-copied" two other times. First by Adelaide Graham Owen in 1932, and again by Verle Hamilton Parrish in 1968. Consequently this particular electronic copy is the third generation "re-copying" from the orginal "History of the Grahams". ********************* Butch, one more comment, although I've been working on genalogy for about 17 years, and continuously learning about computers for about the same length of time, it's only been in the last few weeks that I noticed what you and others had been doing with the West Virginia Web archives. That's a really neat effort. I'll begin going through my other records to see if there's anything else that should be shared in this manner. I think it's great for researchers in an area to be able to work together like this and share their common findings. OK, hopefully you'll get three more messages after this with the three parts of the Graham History. Let me know how it comes out for you.
