Williamson/Zion Church & History Tyler Co. WV Zion Church was the very first Methodist Church in Tyler County, West Virginia. Virginia at this time of 1785. It could possibly be the first in Virginia. Service's where held in the log home of the Williamson Family where the little town of Friendly now stands. At the time it was the site of a mill pond. In 1811 a large building of hand hewed logs was built. On the present site of the Church now. It was used for Church as well as for School till the close of the Civil War. The parcel of land around the Church was used as a Cemetery.The first grave was that of James Williamson.
