February 28, 1827; died February 28, 1901) Lemuel Riggs was born in Tyler County W.VA. February 28, 1827 and died at his home in Sancho (Tyler County) February 28, 1901 being just 74 years old at the time he died. Brother Riggs had been a consistent member of the Methodist Protestant Church for 45 years. He was twice married. His first wife was Mezzie Davis, daughter of Caleb Davis, deceased. His second wife was Mrs. Mary Steel, a sister of Henry Howard, of Joseph's Mills. To the first union were born seven children, three of whom preceeded him to the better land. The lifeless body of Brother Riggs was laid to rest in the Spring Hill Cemetery, March 1st in the presence of a large concourse of friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Adams, of Alma.
