WV. This burial site is situated deep in the woods and can only be reached via a narrow, steep, rough trail. It is best traveled by foot, mule or ATV; vehicles such as Jeeps and trucks are too large to navigate the narrow width and sharp turns of this trail which is just barely cut into the steep sides of the mountain ridge. NOTE: This burial site is surrounded by a "wire & stake fence" but is usually overgrown with tall ferns so it is a bit difficult to spot the graves, even with GPS coordinates. Bears and rattlesnakes are among the wild life common to these woods. Many cell phones do not receive service in this area and thus should not be relied on for 911 situations. Rather then give detailed directions to this site, I will instead suggest that visitors find a person familiar with the location of this cemetery to act as a guide to this VERY remote location. There are 5 marked and at least 14 unmarked graves at this site. The five marked graves are: . 1) John William Daff/Daft, s/o Margaret Showalter & Jacob Daft, w/o (1) Hannah Wamsley (m: Feb.09.1858 in Randolph Co. WV) & (2) Elizabeth F. Ramsey (m: Jun.26.1862 in Randolph Co. WV) His grave was originally unmarked, the original rough fieldstones used for his head and foot stones are still in place. At some point in more recent decades, a white marble "military" style headstone has been placed just behind his original headstone. It reads: JOHN W. DAFF, CO F, 31st VA INF, SSA, 1837, 1901 . 2) Boyd Daff, s/o Lottie Emily Lee & Syrus Jacob Daff His headstone reads: BOYD, SON OF, S. J. & LOTY, DAFF, BORN, NOV. 21, 1897, DIED, JULY 22, 1898, Verse reads: "Gone so soon" . 3) Alice L. (Gregory) Sines, d/o Sarah J. Harris & Wyett Gregory w/o Franklin Albert Sines (m: abt. 1876 in Upshur Co. WV) Her headstone reads: ALLICE L. WIFE OF, FRANK SINES, BORN , MAY 1,1861, DIED, SEP. 13, 1897 Verse reads: "Kind Friends behave, as you pass by. As you are now so once was I. I am now, so you must be. Prepare therefore to follow me." . 4) Mahala A. Gregory, d/o Anna Elizabeth Friend & David Hamilton Gregory Her headstone reads: MAHALA A., DAU. OF, D. H. & E .A., GREGORY, BORN MAR.10.1895, DIED MAR.. 24. 1895. Verse reads: "Sleep on sweet babe and take thy rest. God calls away when He thinks best." . 5) Delia Bell Sines, d/o Alice L Gregory & Franklin Albert Sines. Her headstone reads: (Verse is featured first on stone) "Sleep on sweet babe and take thy rest, God calls away when He thinks best". DELIA BELL, Dau. of, A L & F A, SINES, BORN, SEP. 5, 1893, DIED, MAR. 13, 1895 ================================================================ I also have photos of each headstone.
