Belcher Family Info - Tazewell Co. VA, Wayne Co. WV Nancy Belcher, b. 1799, Tazewell County, VA, was the last child of Isham and Martha Patsy Hodges Belcher, who married 3 Jan 1791 in Franklin Co., Va, and settled about two miles SE of present-day Bluefield. She is mentioned in Isham's will posted with VAweb Archives. Benjamin Prince and Nancy Belcher married 22 Nov 1821 in Tazewell County, VA. The Tazewell 1830 and 1840 Censuses list Benjamin Prince as head of his household along with included males and females. In the 1850 Tazewell Census, Prince is misspelled Prints, but the household is Benjamin's: Dwelling Number 836 Benjamin 53 Nancy 49 James M. 18 Nancy 17 Martin Van Buren 13 Martha J. 10 Malinda C. 8 Rebecca R. 5 Two of Benjamin and Nancy's sons are listed as laborers in the Chapman A. David M. Prince had secured a land grant on Marrowbone Creek, in Logan Co., WV., which is right on the Wayne/Logan line. David M. Prince 1 Sept 1856 Logan County 120 a. On head of Second Right hand fork of Big Laurel branch of Marrowbone Creek of Tug River Grants No. 112, p. 784 Hiram W. Prince, Benjamin and Nancy's oldest child, lived not far from David on the Wayne County side, according to a grant secured by William W. Marcum on 1 Sept 1857, which mentions Hiram's house as a reference point: "45 a. On Jinney's Creek of Tug Beginning on the right side of Jinney's Creek...to a point near Hiram Prince's house near the mouth of Uncle Billy's branch..." Julia Prince Belcher, Benjamin and Nancy's oldest daughter, and her husband Harvey Belcher lived close by as well. Harvey Belcher had secured a land grant for 44 a. in 1854 on the Logan side, and may have been the first of this family to arrive in the Wayne/Logan area: He and Julia would later locate entirely in Wayne County, and by the 1880 Wayne Census, Benjamin and Nancy Prince are listed in Harvey's household: Benjamin, 86; Nancy, 83. It is presumed both passed away in the 1880's. The 1860 Logan Census lists David M. Prince and his household on Marrowbone with a Warfield, KY, PO, which is just across the Tug from Marrowbone. No doubt it was the closest PO to his residence. His brother Martin Van Buren Prince is also listed with the Logan Census with a Warfield PO, as well as his sister, Julia Prince Belcher.
