1760 Apprenticeship Indenture between John Artrup and Thomas Blanton Wayne Co. WV Spotsylvania County Records, B-488, August 5, 1760 This Indenture made the 5th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty between John Artrup an infant of Spotsylvania County and Thomas Blanton of the said County Carpenter and joiner witnesseth that the said John Artrup by and with consent and approbation of Spotsylvania county court doth put and bind himself an apprentice to the said Thomas Blanton to serve him from the day of the date heretofore and during the term of five years now ensuing. During all which time the said apprentice his said master shall well and truly serve, his - keep, his lawful command always obey. He shall not destroy or embezzle his said Master's goods, nor cause it to be done by any other person. He shall not commit adultery or fornication nor contract matrimony through said term. Neither shall he absent himself by day or night from his said Masters's without leave but in all things shall behave himself as an apprentice ought to do during all the term aforesaid and the said Thomas Blanton for his part doth consent and agree to and with his said apprentice to use his utmost endeavour to teach and entrust him in his trade of a carpenter and joiner and to find and provide for his said apprentice sufficient meat, drink, clothing, washing and lodging fitting for his said apprentice during the term aforesaid and at the enspiration thereof to pay him the sum of three pounds current money of Virginia or goods to the value of it in clothing.
